I was shocked when she brought back a homework assignment last night from her Canadian professor who teaches at Pusan National University. He wrote a sample paragraph about his hometown. It was just bad writing in general with missing commas everywhere. In one spot, he even had a really bad run-on sentence in which he used a comma instead of a period to separate two sentences. I just figured that they would be a little more picky when weeding people out for university jobs...especially ones as big as PNU. I guess I was wrong.

You're not wrong you are just anal retentive . Despite what you think this actually hampers your intellectual potential . I suggest you fixate less on the little details and spend more time trying to hold ideas and concepts in your head . Try see the woods for the trees . There's a good boy .

Yeah, because the deep description of his hometown flew right over my head.

I'll post the paragraph later tonight when my gf gets back.

I've met my fair share of university professors in Korea, and have seen no evidence whatsoever to suggest they deserve any more esteem than the rest of us. A good way to refute the idea that a TOEFL certificate or MA is necessary to be successful and effective in Korea is to point to university professors . . . actually, they're not "professors," are they? . . . I meant "lecturers." Matter of fact, from my experience it seems like they build university faculties the same way the Flyers built their roster in the late-90s: the bigger the better. I think a university in Gwangju was rolling out their own version of the Legion of Doom a while back.

The irony . Delicious .

You missed the entire content to focus on an insignifant point . In dealing with the critique to go on to eumulate it . I wouldn't put in an application to Mensa just yet if I were you .

It is a very common phrase and it is grammatically sound.

I think you just found your "professor" Laughing

His point was that lecturers and professors at academic institutions should have good grammar and writing skills. You're saying that writing skills are secondary to the message being conveyed.

In academia, if you want to say something, you say it properly or people won't take you seriously.

Also, you've spelled "emulate" wrong, and "the entire content" of what? Your message? Please revise and submit again for a second grade.

Intelligence is the ability to effectively adapt to stimuli within your environment .

Firstly that means that an intelligent mind effortlessly should be able to derive the meaning without the help of structured grammar . Secondly that means one should have the ability to determine which stimuli is important enough to requires action or attention , and not to fixate on that which is insignificant . F for fail on both counts .

No, I agree with you in that conveying the message is important and in most cases, it is acceptable to ignore grammar and other things in face of recognizing the intelligence in an argument. But we're talking about academia and standards, and in academics there should be standards for grammar and spelling, especially when the teaching of a language is concerned.

If you're intelligent enough to make an elaborate argument, why no go the extra step and do so properly? Especially in an academic setting heavily set in certain traditions.

NEway, i personally think its better dat professors & intellectuals dont all speak l337 or n3tsp34k. standards r important.
