I was a little put off by the garbage floating in the ocean around the north end of the island (Koh Samet). The beaches were nice though and I didn't see garbage floating there. I'd go back but can't say that it compares at all to the Perhentians.

Anyone going to the Perhentians for the Lunar New Year? How much would it cost?

I think you may still be in the rainy season then. What are the dates exactly this year?

January 21-25 most of us are off. Where is the best beach to go to at that time?

The rainy season will be over on the other side of the peninsula at that time. I don't know it though. When I was there I was in the reverse situation. The west coast of Malaysia and Thailand should be relatively dry then.

I think that the Western side of the penninsula will be in 'high season' or 'dry season'.

Grand Beach just north of Winnipeg has white sand. And in the winter it has white snow.

Seriously it has some of the softest whitest sand I have ever seen.

Presumably you mean Winnipeg, Thailand....?

Anyhow the P Islands'll definitely be shut down in Jan. Rainy, murky water. Actually I think the boats there even stop from Nov 15th onwards until Feb. You'd have to charter a fishing boat or something. I was on the East Coast there a few years ago in December and it poured literally the whole time.

The Western Peninsual (Phuket / Krabi / Koh Phi Phi / Koh Lanta) is dry at this time.

From January to April the weather is in "the hot season".

The rainy or monsoon season is from May to December.

So, the best time to hit Phuket and the other Eastern islands is from December to April.

Rainy season on teh Western peninsula is from May to November.

I also like Ko Hai or Ko Ngai

Has anyone been to Ko Si Chang and does anyone know if it's possible to continue on to Cambodia from there or would I have to return to Banglok/Pattaya to get a bus through to Phnom Penh?
