|
|
I posted a topic about the age of consent laws in Korea and provided resources to show this was absolutely the truth that the government allowed children to have sex with adults. I clearly showed the age of consent was 13 and there were no age limits on the partners. Some people decided that it was ok for a 13 year old was OK to have sex with if you are an adult, I criticized it. Now here is the kicker I posted something like this before and they took it off immediately. With all this underage sex tourism in Asian countries including Korea and laws allowing children to have sex with adults (telling the paeodophiles to come over here), I thought this would be a good GENERAL discussion topic. Anyway, it seems that once again Dave's ESL came to the save of the Korean government to not make the government look bad, you know to "save face." |

Can you please site a case where this happened specifically in Korea, or are you just speaking hypothetically? |

The topic was age of consent and Asian governments lack of responsibility towards children setting age of consent ages as low as 13. I put many resources showing it as truth. Then some guy tried to say since the Korean government says it is legal and 13 years old are past prepubescent period it is OK. I criticized the comment and people who dodged the issue when they posted. I seen a forum on here trashing people who have religious beliefs and actually citing hatred but it was not taken off. It seems this is not the first time I pointed out problems with the country I teach in and they took it off. So I feel since my post was a direct criticism of the Korean government it was taken off. |

Consent is 14 in Canada so i guess its time to start a crusade here too. It's a bit of a sticky situation. 13 (korean age?) so ya 12 is low. But what are the standards across the globe? What would you recommend as the age of consent? |

Trollfool, why don't you post the thread so others can take a look at it? You posted it in the CE forum.
I didn't enter into that fray, but I saw what went down. The general consensus was trollfool was trying to dig up dirt. He failed miserably.
Edit: I just checked. It's not there anymore. What a surprise.
People, ignore this guy. If you could have read that thread, you would understand. |

Updated 03-2002:
the korean age of Consent is 19 however Koreans mesuremnt of age is differnt then ours. a korean is one year old 100 days after being born and ages a year very lunar newyear there after. so a korean 19 may actully be a western 17 or 18 depending on when the person was born the simplicity is people born in the same year are the same age. So if you know someone under the age of consent in korea you have to wait until everyone turns a year older on the lunar new year. thanx

It used to be 13 due to arranged marriages and the like, it's now 19. Your information is incorrect, k thx bai. |

I second sargx's claim. So does the Seoul Metro Police:

Just an FYI: Age in Korea as it relates to legislation is determined by actual calendar age, not "Korean age." |

The age of consent laws in Canada were either recently revamped or the bill is going through Parliament right now. They've instituted one of those five-year-age-difference rules.
Just so y'know. Canada's not supporting the pedophiles. |

Korean age 13 = 14 US |
Except when it comes to legislation. Then, in Korea, the age of 13 is exactly that: the calendar age of 13 years. |
