Well after researching and the great advice, I think the winner is going to be Ko Phi Phi. Cant pass up some of the best diving in Thailand, even if it is 'more' exensive. The cost for the PADI certification is about the same but the accomidation is the pricey part. But that is why I work so hard. Besides its not like Im gonna get another vacation like this until . . . I dont want to think about it 
Thanks for all the tips, if you know a good place to stay or shop to go with on Ko Phi Phi, please suggest away. SO far Moskito was mentioned, how was that??

Do they have any deals where the accommodation may be included or discounted by taking a course from a certain dive school? I know there were several deals available like this in the Perhentians. |

No, you'd find this on Ko Tao but not Phi Phi. If you want something really cheap, walk way down the beach.....way way past the hippie bar and way past the huge resort (can't remember the name) and you'll find cheaper places down that way. You'll have to walk through the sea gypsy village and up and down hills. It's a long way to go but there isn't going to be much else there that's cheap. Otherwise, you'll pay b500 for a room w/ attached bathroom. There is a dorm there somewhere but I have no clue where. Ask around and ignore teh touts when you get off the ferry. |

Another option Im considering over the more expnsive Phi Phi islands is to go to Ko Lanta. It is really close to the Phi Phi's. . .about a 2 hour boat ride I think? Anyhow it is cheaper to get the certification as well as accomidation, and once we are done if we have fallen in love with diving, which Im sure we will have....then we can charge up the old credit card and do some stuff in the Phi Phi's or the Surin and Similan islands.
We have three weeks to spend, the first in Angkor and Phnom Penh and the second two were to be for scuba certification and a few days in Chang Mai. The closer my vacation is getting though the more I am getting excited to dive and live on the beach the entire time.

Koh Lanta is beautiful. If you go there, rent motorbikes and head to the caves. They are worth the price of the guides. I didnt' dive lanta but I think they do a lot of dives on Phi Phi. It'll be a long boat ride though.
FYI, the train from the south to Bangkok is long (18h I think) and then you've got a long trek to Chang Mai by bus. Remember you should allow yourself about 24h before you fly after diving. Someone might tell you that 12 is ok but I always go with 24. It's really not worth it to take your chances. |

I have it somewhere on my journels as well. I just spend two nights and a day in Phnom Penh. I'd highly recommend anyone to read 'Off the Rails in Phnom Penh: Girls, Guns and Ganja' it pretty much sums everything up.
For the most part I agree almost entirely with Rapier's assessment. Its pretty much all that and more. Most of it are just run-down as all hell, potholes everywhere. A group of people sleep outside of all the hostels and day and night ask you if you want to go anywhere. Sometimes the place feels a little sinister. Other times its pretty cool..
I did a whirlwhind tour of PP and hit the Killing Fields (you can get out there and back fairly easily. Just take any moto-driver and you can do it with a few hours. There are also other genocide museuems and other things. And the 'National'-something building which has the most bats accumulated and circling it than any other public building in the world or something, and world reknown for the bat-shit that is everywhere.
Its an interesting city.. I wish I'd lingered more than the 2 nights that I did. Can't say I have a true adequate feel for it. Actually the days seemed so edgy to some degree.. that I didn't really feel like wandering around at night - as I usually would in just about any other Asian city. I think mainly because the moto-drivers seemed so desparately poor that I wasn't entirely sure if I'd want to be zooming off in the middle of the night on the back of one of those to who knows where - and then there are the stories..
Hmm.. sounds more interesting now, huh? If I had had another night there, I'd definetely hit clubs/bars like the Foreign Correspondents Club and a few others.. they are legendary. |

phnom penh is a must see. it's a very nice city that is not too large, yet still vibrant in an asian feel way with some western feel to it. the nights are quite interesting depending on how you proceed. there really is nothing to worry about - just keep your senses about you.
it's quite poor yet comfortable because of the large expat community there. you can find anything you need and then some.
probably the best thing about it is that it is not overrun with tourists.
it's a good place to chill for a few days and more depending on your interests.
i've travelled extensively and been to many cities and this one has them beat in it's uniqueness and there's something about it that i just can't place that gives it a memorable experience. |

| I did my PADI pen Water with Big Blue in Chaweng, Koh Samui. I did this in July and there was no rain and we had 30 meters of visibilty. I did my Advanced Open Water in Pattaya with Mermaids. It was good in that it is known for wreck dives; they have 3 significant wrecks at about 30 meters. Was there in February and the visibility was not that good..not as pretty as Samui. I have heard that the Andaman is the prettiest area but in June/July you will have monsoons |

| i wasn't in phi phi long enough to dive, but i snorkeled off mosquito island and it was amazing. would definitely be a good place to dive. |
