Going travelling but want to send my suitcases home full of clothes. The post office said it won't send them, just boxes. Any other places I can use to send them home?

1) If they are small enough to be mailed (total linear dimensions (length + 2*height + 2*width) less than 200cm) just wrap them in brown paperor box them up and mail them. Max weight is 20kgs for surface mail.

2) If they are expensive suitcases, air freight is an option with your favorite airline (flag carrier from your country). This is NOT a cheap option and will probably cost more than the contents. You will have to drop them off at the freight counter of the airline and someone at home will have to pick them up.

3rd option is box the clothes and send them home via surface mail (20kgs for 50k won or less) and dispose of/sell off the suitcases.

This is something that I'd like to do, just send home my suitcase and then travel a little before heading back home. I sent my suitcase home through the post office when I lived in Japan a few years back. Wasn't a problem at all. Why is it NOT possible to do the same through the post office in Korea?

And what's with wrapping your sitcase up in brown paper?

If anyone knows of an Int'l removal company that ships suitcases from Korea to Europe please let me know.

How much did your suitcase cost? Is it worth shipping home? Could you sell it to someone here instead?

This may be too late to help ella, but when I left Korea I had a large, hardshell suitcase I wanted to send back to Canada (it was a loaner). I took my suitcase to a central post office where they were offering their awesome custom-box service (where they'll take sheets of cardboard and encase whatever it is you need to ship. really cool). The entire package had to be less than 20kg. Now, I've seen posts where it says that the package dimensions must be less than 200cm all around, but here were my suitcase dimensions: 70cm x 55cm x 35cm. That definitely exceeds 200cm it arrived in Canada, no problem.

I still have some post office receipts and I believe I have the one for the suitcase. The package weighed 13,500g and cost 37,800 won to ship. The custom-boxing was extra.

This might be more than you are looking for. They might be more useful, say, for moving the contents of your apartment. They can also be a little pricy.

Hope that helps.

Shocked Someone better tell them they have "Sea of Japan" on their website map before the nation gets offended.

250 cm by their calculations... (70 + 2*35 + 2*55 ). Guess they didn't bother with the measuring tape and / or it was close enough for government work.

lucky you.
