|
|
So I'm getting read to go down to immi on Monday to change my visa to my new job, and I get a text from a friend letting me know that one of the old teachers at my old hagwon pulled a runner. They will be HURTING for a teacher, and I have my LOR, finaly pay, and everything else I need from them all taken care of. Is there anyway my old boss can try and reel me back in by calling into immigration and "cancelling" my LOR? Any reassurance is appreciated. |

As long as the LOR is in your hands and it has his stamp on it, I don't think there's anything he could do to stop you. I'd go in really early on Monday just to be sure, though.

(1) The doors open up at 9:00 a.m. Arrive at 8:45 and be the first one through the door. Immigration officials are cranky as the day grows old.
(2) If you haven't moved out, do it this weekend. Your employer will probably knock on your apartment door and the conversation could get heated.
(3) Translate the following below into Korean and hand it to the immigration officer if you run into troubles;
"My name is your name. On date name of your boss and I signed this legally binding letter of release. We both agreed to sign the letter of release."

Agreed with the above advice. You gotta be pro-active and get to immigration EARLY and get that E-2 visa canceled. That'll put you in the clear. You'd be surprised how much immigration does FOR sleazy hagwon owners and AGAINST honest teachers. Immigration is NEVER on our side. |

No. The LOR was written and signed by the director. It is binding. He's SOL. |

Frankie, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Immigration can do some "funny" things on behalf of a hagwon pal. |

I suppose it's possible if you're using the same Immi office for your new job. If you're using a different office, what's the boss going to do?
(I'm currently on my 5th job... I've only used the same Immi office once... they don't talk to each other)

When I filed to get my pension back from the uni that didn't pay into it, I gave the caseworker one of those big bags of instant Maxim coffee things as my way of saying thanks for your time and patience.
He refused to take it because "it's our government policy not to take such things because it could be interpreted as taking a bribe". Needless to say, I was shocked speechless. |

Thanks for the advice...I'll be camping outside the office like a fan waiting to get into a Star Wars movie at midnight. |
