Hi everyone,

As the Bill Kapoun incident has made many of us realize, fire safety standards are not up to what most of us are used to back home. There has been some great information from posters in that thread about where to order smoke detectors. Another poster, simone, went ahead and ordered a bunch to make available to people living without them.

Tonight at Indigo's in Haebangchon, I'll be there distributing the smoke detectors in return for a donation to the Bill Kapoun recovery fund. I'll be setting up around 6pm and I'll stay there until the detectors are gone. They'll be available on a first-come first-served basis, and we'd like to limit them to one per household so that they can be spread out to as many as possible.

To get to Indigo's you take exit 2 from Noksapyeong station (on the brown line, next to Itaewon station). Walk down hill until you reach the first street where you can turn left. You will see the big brown kimchi pots and two young police officers guarding the entrance to the army base. Walk up that road. On your right about halfway up that street you will see Indigo's cafe on the first floor. I'll be just inside the door.

Take care everyone.

Seconded. If this kind of thing happens again, I'll come and make a donation (would have this time but didn't know about it until just now, Sunday morning).
