A bunch of classic pop stars are scheduled to hit Seoul May 4-5 at the Flower Power Peace Festival at Jamshil's Olympic Main Stadium. The people scheduled to attend are:

Neil Young
Rod Stewart
Don McLean
Linda Ronstadt
Janis Ian
Brothers Four
Donovan
Judy Collins
Melanis Safka
Dr. Hook
Alan Parsons Project
Crystal Gayle
Bob Dylan

I hear admission will be quite expensive, between 80,000 and 200,000 won. You can reserve tickets through interpark.com or ticketlink.co.kr.

Who cares? I don't know half of these people, and plus, concerts in Seoul suck because they are always in a big darn stadium, which means for 200,000 won, you will still end up with a not so great seat. I don't bother with concerts in Seoul. What a waste!

Well, I guess that makes you a moron then. Either that, or a culturally-deprived child.

Well, most of those singers are old, and a couple of them are country. I know that much. I hate country! I can't imagine many Koreans liking country singers like Crystal Gale. Now when I was in Shanghai, I saw a live band sing Crystal Gale's "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" song, but one of the guys played a sax, so it didn't even sound country. It was great.

It's not a wind-up.

I'm planning to go for Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

That's a very good line-up--for 35 years ago. Most of these were significant folk artists in their time. I've seen Dylan and Ronstadt perform before, and both give you your money's worth. There won't be head banging and rapping, but if you like folk and folk rock, you'll have a good time.

Who knows, maybe Melanie will sing 'Alexander Beetle'. Very Happy Here's one of her hits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz9sjMGUM9k&feature=related Judy Collins and Rod Stewart did fine versions of 'Amazing Grace'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG3Xd7ENuyk Ronstadt did a series of excellent rock albums in the 70's, but she's probably best known for things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QloXf3sSz9g
and her covers of Buddy Holly songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tBeqxKKseA&feature=related

Usually the concerts at Chamsil are pretty good. Security is lax
so sneaking in booze is no problem. After the Chilli Peppers concert
a few years ago there must have been twenty mighty whities passed
out in and around the stadium. A lot of the Koreans, of course, went
to see the Chilli Peppers wearing suits and evening wear.

I had a good time, was drinking Jack-'n-Coke the whole concert. The
only unfortunate thing missing was that heady aroma of nature's herb
that makes the entire thing come alive.

I saw Bob Dylan once. It was kinda disappointing. I think you have to be a proper Dyland fan to appreciate his gigs cos the versions he plays live are totally different to what's on his records.

Again, like Toto and Duran Duran, it's not that current. Where are the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon... Now those are (fairly big) bands I want to see live.

Duran Duran are pretty cool. I like half a dozen Donovan songs, and I have about five Alan Parsons Project C.D.s. I'd like to see what a concert is like in Korea; that would be interesting.

If you want to see a boring, sh*tty show, check out Bob Dylan. I love Bob Dylan, but I saw him twice and the second time - after "wow, it's really Bob Dylan" factor wore off - I had to admit he puts on a terrible show. He looks bored and confused out there, his voice is gone, he sings/mumbles out of rythm and generally wanders around the stage in a daze. It's hard to recognize most of the songs. And I really do love Bob Dlyan.

BTW- this is a hoax, right? i can't imagine them selling many tickets with this crusty 60s line-up. Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison could come back from the dead with Keith Moon on drums and not sell out in Korea.

I'm going. That's a huge list, and sure to be entertaining. A lot of these artists go for obscure setlists when they play in Asia. Dylan, Young, and Stewart can still put on a great show, regardless of what you think of their music.

Crystal Gayle was HUGE in Country in the late 70s/early 80s.

The only ones they're missing are Slim Whitman and Boxcar Willie.
