Can someone please write in hangeul the words for "garbage bag," and also the sizes? All I remember was there was the big white bag and the smaller orange (about the size of a small wastepaper basket). Out of all the useful Korean I learned, this always slips my mind...

Thanks!

You can get them in 25 liter, 50 liter, 75 liter, and even liter sizes also. Be sure to buy them at a large store, such as Home plus or E-Mart. If you buy them at a convenience store (4 Seasons, 7-11, etc.), you'll be paying much more than you should.

But everyone ends up buying them at local stores, anyway.. Laughing

Don't forget the types of bags:

일반쓰레기 봉투 - Common garbage
음식물쓰레기 봉투 - Food and waste

hahah! I did a search on google just to see what would come up, and I found this:

"(3) Recyclable Items
Materials that are recyclable such as plastic, cans, bottles, and paper should be put in a clear plastic bag or even a sandbag-like bag and put in the appropriate spot on collection day. Spray cans, cooking-gas cans, and other such things can explode, so put a hole in these to make sure they are completely empty."

Uhh...isn't it BAD to puncture them no matter if they are full or empty??

Right, Pete. And your post reminds me of something else. Be sure to get the bags that are good for your district. If your Dong isn't listed on the bag, it's not good for your district. Also on the list is the pick-up schedule for the various types of garbage, plus the warning for not disposing of your trash correctly: a 1,000,000 won fine!

But how do they know who's it is? Our old villa's residents just threw their garbage on the roadside and it would be picked up, E-Mart bags and all.

I think that what you are looking for is 루이비통. These bags can be bought from many places in Korea. Just look around. Actually, I think that the correct spelling might be 루이비. Laughing Laughing

Some residents in our last villa did that too, only the correctly bagged stuff was collected. The rest would end up driven over by people desperate for parking space and the contents would be on the ground for weeks.

Some days we had to walk through thrash on leaving the villa.
I don't think anybody remewed tenure.

Just use your normal E-Mart / Homeplus bag like everyone else does. The special garbage bags are of a much lesser quality and often tear.
