"I hope there will be justice in Thailand," he told reporters.
Neil has pleaded not guilty to sexually abusing a 9-year-old Thai boy, who contacted police after seeing Neil's face on television after his arrest. The child claims Neil paid him 500 baht (US$15, �10) to 1,000 baht ($30, �20) to perform oral sex in 2003, while he was living in Thailand.
He faces up to 20 years in prison for charges that include sexually abusing a minor and videotaping the alleged abuse, taking a child without parental consent with holding him against his will.
Interpol's public call for help was based on the discovery of some 200 Internet photos believed to show Neil sexually abusing at least a dozen Vietnamese and Cambodian boys, some as young as 6.
The photos were found online in 2004, but the face of the perpetrator was digitally obscured as a swirling shape. After three years of searching, the international police agency was able to unscramble the images with the help of German police computer experts. Interpol circulated the pictures publicly and received hundreds of tips that led them to identify Neil as the suspect.
Neil was arrested 11 days after the appeal was launched after flying into Bangkok on a one-way ticket from South Korea, where he was working as an English teacher.
Neil had taught at various schools in South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam since 2000. Previously, Neil worked as a chaplain in Canada, counseling teens.
Neil lived in Thailand from 2002 to early 2004, according to police.

he is fucked in LOS. They can't let him go free. They do that and they will look bad no matter if he is guilty or not.
Still unsure as to the Thai allegations or not. Never read like he shat where he ate. |

I agree he is probably screwed in Thailand. But far be it for a little Thai guy to lie about something or a Federal Investigation to arrest the wrong individual. All I am saying is that no one has heard Neil's side of it yet. If he is indeed guilty then I hope the wheels of justice turn accordingly. But all this legislation that is causing so many headaches is because of Neil and I am thinking what a severe loss of face to everyone if he were found innocent. All I have hear in the press is "the pedophile Neil" or "child abuser Neil". They've hung him without a trial as far as I am concerned. He's screwed either way because the stigma of something like that will follow him the rest of his life. If he were found not guilty then he would have to change his name and break with any attachments he's ever had and reinvent himself. |

Trial by judge in LOS as well. Might be two on the panel for this one. Sure if he can find 10million or so it might make them feel more favourable towards him. |

Er...so the pictures were faked. If you knew fake pictures of you abusing kids were online...I'd call the police. Second why do you think I haven't gone to Thailand? Cause perverts and Sickos go to SE Asia. Yes they do, and everyone has met one. And that is why my vacations are not spent surrounded by beaches, Cambodian land-mines, and NAMBLA members. And yes I'm sure MOST people go to Thailand for nice moral reasons, but its got a rep. So does Camden and I don't go there either.
-So CPN being innocent is a waste of breath. At the best he is a VERY creepy man with terrible luck. At the worst... |

Never thought they were faked. Always thought he was guilty of the photos.
Don't however think he is guilty in Thailand. Doesn't add up to me. Guy is here in Korea - no reports of child abuse.
Still think he abused away from his place of work. Wouldn't be surprised if all the media attention in Thailand made some boys come forwards with a plan to try and make money out of him.
Maybe I'm just cynical or spent too long in LOS. |

| guilt before moral law and guilt before legal law are not really the same thing. Why does it matter where he does time? Granted canada has nicer prisons than Thailand I'm sure...but he should have thought of that when he fled the country. As for legal jurisdiction, did Canada file for extradition? |

The trial will likely drag on for months, a few days here and there. In the extremely unlikely event this is all a big mistake and he is innocent the presence of international press and the trial he could receive in the press if evidence in his defence comes out is his only hope.
It is kind of odd that he'd be facing far more time for herion possession. |

| I read another report that says the trial is planned to start in June. That will be nine months in Thai custody already. And he apparently didn't even have a defence lawyer yet until the court appointed one? I wonder if he's been disowned by his family in the past while. |

| Home in Canada now, and heard on the radio this morning that he appeared before the judge, only to hear him say his trial will begin on June 2nd. |
