Actually I just saw that this weekend too. It seems a little presumptuous to claim Jesus would want that church. |

I believe Jesus said "The Kingdom (Malakuth) is within, not in wood or stone...". Jesus was not focused on temples, outer things as much inner things. However, most Christians get too into forms, and it is not humble to assume your church is the one Jesus wants. No, their church is not a church Jesus would want, because he wasn't out there for marketing purposes. At least, not from his words. And there is something to be said about using the Lord's name in vain. This is an example and I believe Christians are supposed to believe in that concept. |

The best church would be one in the same building with the spinning barber shop poles. In that way you could keep sinning and continue to repent. Therefore justify the existence of the church. |

That's some efficient thinking my friend.
Here's the strangest church I've seen in Korea that I can think of now. A crab restaurant + church. Or the cult of the crab.

Here we go again with people talking about what Jesus thought. We know absolutely NOTHING about what he thought. There is no evidence that he even existed. (Remember, people back then believed Hercules was an actual person too.) If he did exist we know absolutely nothing about him. He left no records. None of the gospel writers had met him. The gospels were written decades after he had died (if he existed at all). And the gospels do not portray Jesus as totally moral. In fact, he could be a downright jerk at times. At times he appears racist and sexist, and believed his opponents were going to burn in hell. He wouldn't give one disciple a day off to go bury his father. He told another that he must hate his family, otherwise he was unfit to be his disciple. So much for family values Jesus.

Anyway, let's have no more 'Jesus taught this' or 'Jesus believed that' nonsense. We have simply no idea. Anyone who believes that they do know needs to get themselves a library card. |

There's a reason why so many religious people seem so unkind. The main character in their holy book, Jesus, could also appear incredible unkind. I doubt that he was a very pleasant character at all. Like most cult leaders he might have been charismatic, but the scriptures don't portray him as being a particularly good person. Again, that's why so many Christians are mean-spirited. They've read the bible and understand that cruelty, intolerance and vengefulness are qualities that Jesus and his daddy cherished.
When one thinks of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Ian Paisley etc. the words "he seems like a nice fellow" don't exactly flash in our mind. |

I think that was pretty well the point of this whole thread. Thanks for stating the obvious. |

Isn't it interesting that there are no commandments in the bible against genocide, rape, child abuse, racism, etc. Seems ole Yahweh wasn't quite as moral as us moderns whom he has the pretension to judge.
No moral person can read the bible and not be convinced that Yahweh was a psychopath. |
