South Korea originally named Ko as its candidate in September, but Lee Sang-mok, a senior ministry official, said Russia's Federal Space Agency asked for a replacement last month because Ko had violated regulations at a Russian space training center.

I wonder what exactly happened to cause this?

Yes, it does have the makings of a good story.

A couple of months ago, there was someone around here who claimed to know one of the women candidates. Anyone remember who that was?

I'm also wondering what his transgression was.

I couldn't work out why I thought the photo of the woman looked a bit odd, then I realised it's the first time I've ever seen a K female do a thumbs up, instead of that stupid V sign in all their photos.

Zing. Korean manhood emasculated once again when competing head to head with Korean women abroad. Sucks when the rest of the world gives you a level playing field and you can't trade on first born status.

At least she's not doing that stupid "fighting!" thing in her photo.

Just got back from a class with a salaryman. I told him about this (he hadn't heard).

He said the guy astronaut was probably shamed for life, then he kind of had a sad look on his face. I then observed that the woman astronaut had to be loving it. He perked up with a big grin and said "Yeah, yeah, hehehe!!"

He could have been laughing to cover some feeling of collective shame. I dunno.

Anyway, I assume we haven't heard the last of this story.

It's possible he asked a blonde space agency PhD if she was for rent.

According to the KT article, he took sensitive training materials off base twice. That might not be the full story. But seems to me if a guy can't follow little rules after being warned twice, he's going to be a danger up in space. I wonder if it's a language issue? A friend applied for the program and they do have an english test. Maybe he was fakin' it.

I think they are keeping him on the bench so to speak. In case anything goes wrong with the 'ladynaut'. So I guess the night before he'll force soju down her neck till she passes out then turn up the next day ready to do his born duty.
