A chance to make 25,000 won for 45 minutes for an after public school (345-430) program - is it worth the bother twenty students max... seems the pay should be better for that considering many people who tutor do it for 25 for a single person... would you take it? Or ask for more or refuse....? may choose any sort of lesson - students would in theory be there by choice - also asking for more may make the principle mad and you know how they can play with 'vacation' time....

can you say no?

if so, just say you can not do it because you are taking classes at some BS school you make up. I'd rather get 30-50/hr talking to one adult than messing with 10-30 kids for 25 or even 35K.

As nancy reagan, that old b it ch, used to say, "Just say NO!"

I'm gonna buck the trend here...

I'm assuming that this is at your regular place of employment...

Yes, do it! Why? Big classes are actually much easier to teach than single students in many ways... if you have a lot of students you can make them give presentations, practice pronunciation, do desk work, etc. All of which is educational and takes up a lot of time.

And, since it's where you are, there's no commute - which is important. Sure, 50 thou an hour seems like a lot of money for you average private - but if you factor in the 30 minute door-to-door commute, you're back down to 25k again.

And it's legal.

Do it.

when i was actually teaching in those classes, i had some students drop (i wasn't doing enough games)... and apparently, my pay of 25,000W dropped too-- they were paying me per student. long story, but if any of you are thinking about teaching those extra classes at your school, i think it'd be a good idea to write up a statement of how much per class you'll be paid, the total amount that you'll receive upon completion, and when the money will be given to you. then get it signed by your co-teacher and principal. that's just what i wish i had done

That's exactly what was done at my school. I didn't suggest it though. I'm lucky my school is generally on the ball. I get paid more than 25/class for the two hour classes for mum's I do (per week). They actually asked me how much I wanted and I got it. I should've been more greedy maybe could've got private rates! If my regular classes are cancelled I still get the mum's class overtime Smile

I just started teaching extra classes in the morning before regular class starts. The school pays me 25,000 per class of 50 min. It sounds like nothing when you look at it but I spend nothing on commuting or any other costs. I do this 5 days a week so it is easy extra cash in my opinion.

I resigned with the same school this year and had them add a clause to the contract fixing my pay at 25,000 per class for a certain number of students. Thus they can't just keep on adding kids as they like. My pay also stays the same even if students drop out of the course. Another addition to the contract was a guarantee from the school that they will never cancel these classes for the duration of 2008. In that way I can be sure of this income for the rest of my contract.

The students selected for the classes are the best in their grade, so I do not have a mix of English skills sitting in front of me.

So if you can get your school to agree on a few things then go and do the class.
