hey all, i've been job hunting for teaching positions in seoul, looking to begin early may, but im noticing ALL the job posiitons (w/ the exception of EPIK) are asking for people ready to be there in 1-2 weeks, is that enough time to get all your visa stuff done? is that also normal for Korea? i mean, i heard most things are done last minute, but 2 weeks notice is a bit short notice to begin the job isnt it? I honestly have'nt found anything for 1-2months down the road.Sad

Ill review the other threads, but I'm interested in how other people, especially Canadians, have found the timeline.

I've got to return to Canada around May to begin the process. Assuming that I complete as much of the paperwork as possible beforehand, how long after submission of my application can I expect to receive the visa?

Something very interesting is happening to you , but you dont realise it.Your in the process of experiencing what the vets call, " HOGWON LOGIC"
Both the teachers and the the hogwons know that with the new rules it would be almost impossible too jump thru all the hoops in two weeks.
There are, however , a small minority of expats who could start asap. Those are the ones whom are married to a korean. They are very rare and they usally have the best jobs. Therefore it doesnt make sense for a school to advertise a job at 2.1 mil and ask that the teacher start asap ,but they do it all the time.Yet another example of HOGWON LOGIC.
I would write a million stories about HOGWON LOGIC
From my experience ; prior to the new E2 laws , hogwons use to ask you if you would start asap , only to have you start 3 weeks later.
Even if they need you to start asap, the schools are rarely ready

I may have a solution to your problem
1-Why dont you apply directly to the the head office of some of the larger
schools , such as
PAGODA
ECC/Ybm
CDI
GnB
YES
none of these places are perfect

2-next time you see an add/ school that you are interested , apply to it. Just make sure that your resume state the time in which you can start at.
Even thouhg the current position starts in March , this school may very well have another opening in May

If you have all your documents in your hand when you begin the application process then you can process an E2 in 12-21 days.

IF you need to wait for anything (like a CRC or to get your documents certified/apostilled) you can delay the process for days or even weeks.
