Hmmm, haven't gotten a cleaning in eight years. I should probably do something about that. |
Go today! My check up (i.e. cleaning) was 40,000 won. |

I have friends who have had work done here and were totally satisfied. And yes, it's much cheaper than the states. If you're worried take a Korean friend with you to keep em' honest. |

I went to the dentist in Ulsan last year. I had a root canal and a partial gold filling done. It was alright, I'm not sure how much cheaper it was than if I'd had it done in Canada. I paid about 600 000 won.
It was not an experience I'd like to repeat, but it had to be done since my tooth hurt so much. The first time I visited it was a little scary. They put a cloth over your face with a hole for you mouth while they operate. I really wasn't expecting that. However, after they froze my mouth it wasn't too bad.
The second time when I got my root canal finished and they fitted a porcelan
tooth in was very painful! They didn't freeze my mouth at all and went in there with the drill and the sucking hose! The dentist had to tell me to try to breath normally at a couple points.
Do it if it NEEDS to be done. |

Nearly everyone in Korea has metal fillings. I rarely saw them in the U.S. They're quite unsightly. I'm not taking a poke at people who can't afford non-metal fillings, though. |

A few years ago , I cracked a rear tooth. I would guess that approx. 1/4 of the tooth was gone. I think the dentist did a great job at fixing it , however , it took me 10 visits to get it fixed. Each visit lasting between 30 -60 minutes. To add to that the dentist put a metal filling in my tooth , without my permission.
In 2004 , a had a very bad case of tonsilitis.I saw a korean doctor which told me I should get them revomed asap. However I decided against having the surgery in Korea. Whne I went back to canada , I saw a few different doctors , all of them told me that I didnt have to remove my tonsils |

I wonder if there's any advantage to having tonsils? Maybe they're vestigial organs since their removal doesn't seem to affect us. It's 7:30 a.m., I'm getting ready for work, and so I haven't any time to check wikipedia. |

Also, this is because Korea is still in the dark ages when it comes to medicine. This is why the dentists are stupid enough to drill someone's tooth without deadening the gums. I'd slap them across the face if they did that to me. |

What would it take for you to slap me across the face? I have teacher certification, not dentist certification. |

So I have some toothaches and know I have at LEAST some cavities.
I went to the dentist here a few years ago, and he didn't tell me I had any cavities but one potential on its way.....fast foward to a few months ago, and the salesman - I'm sorry, the dentist said I needed 3. I would have believed him more had he spent more time discussing my treatment plan rather than my payment plan. I keep meaning to get a second opinion, but I leave in Uiejongbu, and as far as I know he is the only one around that speaks English.
I will probably end up getting the root canals done here, but does anyone else out there feel as if the quality in dentistry is sketchy? Maybe it is all over, the last time I have been to the dentists in Canada I was covered, so I didnt really think twice about stuff.
Anyway...my question is this:
Those whom have received dental care here, and specifically ROOT CANALS, how have you found the results. I am not overly concerned about price, I know it is cheaper here than back home. But I have little faith in much of Korean health care. Do they use the latest top-knotch equipment? Part of me wants to wait till I am back home and covered (which will be about a year from now), but I don't want the infection to get worse (which it inevitably would).
What to do! |
I had a major root canal done 1 1/2 years ago and was very pleased with the results. The only drawbacks was the number of trips it required. Their equipment, including their x-ray that made a 3D computer scan, looked top-notch. And this was in a little hicktown. |
