I recently got a reply from a Uni, who advertised a teaching job, and I said to them I'm interested in the job and they could contact my school at some point to ask about me. I didn't say they could go ahead and contact my school, but I guess the English department at this Uni couldn't understand English properly or I made myself unclear.

This morning my co-teacher tells me yesterday she got a call from that Uni, I kept calm, and said I send out my resume periodically to different employers. She asked me if I intend to renew, I replied in the affirmative. My co-teacher told the Uni. I have told the school that I will renew my contract with them.

So I've just sent that Uni an email saying I had previously told my school I would renew my contract, but I am still very interested in their job and that I hope this explanation will clear up any confusion they may have about my co-teacher saying I would renew the contract with my school.

Don't take this as a negative, but you might have missed an opportunity to say, "Well, I like it here, but I sent out my resume because I am looking for a school where I can grow more, and earn a higher salary. I really hate to leave this place."

They might have come back with a raise.

Why did you tell the Uni you agreed to stay at your current school? They don't need to know that info and it makes you look dishonest.

Well, I'm going up from 2 to 2.1 million a month for the next contract, it's the standard scale with GEPIK.

In an email I sent today, I told the Uni. I previously agreed to renew my contract, which is true. I told the Uni nothing untrue, but I didn't tell them everything that is going on, I simply told them my current contract ends in May and I was interested in their job, which is true.

Sorry I forgot to mention, my co-teacher told the Uni. I have told my school that I will renew my contract, I didn't mention that in the OP. I've just inserted that into the OP.

Well, you are under no legal obligation until you sign a contract. As for getting more money from GEPIK... everything I've read says forget about that if you're getting the standard raise anyway, so disregard what I said above.

My uni plays this game with us where they ask us really early if we will sign or not, then don't offer us a contract until a few weeks before our contract is finished so that we can't dispute what's in it. They actually decided not to renew a guy 1 week before school started (before my time) and gave him no indication of it. He'd worked there for years, and just assumed they were going to renew him.

Knowing that, my former aussie coworker told them she wanted to stay, but then took a high school job back home a few months later. The school had no time to find anyone, and they were livid. Now my class size is 10 students higher than intended, but I applaud her handling of the situation. The school shouldn't rely on our word if their own word isn't worth squat.

One year, they didn't get the contract to my coworker in time and she was fined over 100,000 for overstay. She had been riding the school to get the contract to her, and made them pay the overstay fine.

You want us to stay? Give us a damn contract in a reasonable amount of time.

My aussie coworker doesn't know this, but our boss was so angry, she told one of the other foreigners that she wanted to pursue a course of legal action. I assume they realized they didn't have a leg to stand on, and just acted all nice with my aussie friend (while this was going on behind her back).

bassexpander - In your view, do you think the Uni. will want to employ me? They seem quite desperate, because they contacted my school so quick.

Now, I've sent an email explaining that I basically won't renew with my school if I get a good offer from this Uni., what do you think the Uni. will do? I ask because you work at one.

I would say they want you (we've already started the semester).

I'm not sure how this applies to you, but keep in mind that we're a few days away from March 15, which is supposed to be this "new rule" date thing. If you do something, you might want to stress the importance of getting paperwork in as soon as possible. Might not matter though.

I would call them and find out where you stand, and make a decision one way or another fast.

I won't hold my breath, but it would be pretty cool if they offered me the job.

The tone of their email yesterday sounded like they were eager to employ somebody soon.

I got a reply from the Uni -

Thanks for your thoughtful e-mail. I understand your situation, cause I know most foreign instructors want to compare various job places at the same time. It doesn't matter to me at all.

However, It's necessaty for me to have itnerview with candidates. Reflecting my prior experiences, meeting one on one helps me make the right decision. If you won't be able to come to the itnerview on week day, I can set-up the interview on weekends, if possible.

What do you think posters, any suggestions? (I know they made spelling mistakes in their email)

Thank them for the prompt response, and ask them if they would like to interview you as soon as possible. Make time and get there, posthaste if they do.

Thanks, I've just emailed them, yet again. It's hard to say what will happen, but I am a lazy git, I'll have to travel for this and if they say no, I'll be annoyed.

You've got to try in life though, I know that.

They haven't replied to my email asking them if they want to interview me as soon as possible.

They sounded desperate yesterday, but I suppose they are not that desperate, otherwise they would have employed me by now!
