| I think Ha should stay in school a few years and at least see how he stacks up against decent competition. Sure, he mopped up the Korean high school league, but that's like playing against me...all 5 foot 6 inches of me. I would like to see a Korean in the NBA, but also want him to succeed.... |

That was a shocker. Good job New Jersey( too bad about Alonzo). I don't think he is anywhere as good as Yao. maybe one of the teams will get his playing rights and play him here in the KBL for a couple of seasons. The same like they do with the Yugo or Croatian players. Ha, come to the Sakers |
Think what you want, but the NBA is LITTERED with cases of stiff 7-footers who couldn't do much but got millions (look at Jim McIlvaine, Chris Washburn, William Bedford). I say Ha will at least get a careful look by scouts and if he even marginally impresses, one team might take a chance and develop him as a project. |

All i ca say is good luck to Ha and get all the money he can. i think his playing days will be KBL however.
If he does make it you know that the amount of NBA games on TV will skyrocket(good thing) but also you will start hearing how korea is taking over the beasketball world because of one player, even if he only puts in 2 points a game.  |

Lee Seung-yeop Denies Rumors of Move to Japan

Lee Seung-yeop departed for Japan on Sunday but reiterated that his three-day visit is only for an appearance on a television program, denying rumors that he will sign a contract with a baseball team in Japan.
The 27-year-old slugger, who was unable to work out a deal during his recent visit to the United States where he tested the free agent market, said that he will stay in Korea if he can't play in the Major Leagues.
``I will not go to the U.S. if they treat Korean baseball as equal to the level of their Class-AA league,'' Lee told Yonhap News Agency. ``I would rather stay at the Samsung Lions if I fail to make a move to the U.S.''
The first baseman, meanwhile, denied rumors that his visit to Japan would involve meetings with baseball teams there.
Local dailies reported last week that Japanese teams are showing interest in Lee and Chiba Lotte Marines president Akio Shigemitsu said he is looking at acquiring Lee after consultations with manager Bobby Valentine.
``I don't think it's time for me to consider going to Japan,'' Lee said. ``I got the news through media reports that some teams in Japan have interest in me, but I don't know the exact situation there.''
Lee stressed that he doesn't have a schedule to meet team officials in Japan, but said he would not reject requests for such meetings.
``I have nothing to lose by meeting them if they ask for meetings,'' Lee said. He will return to South Korea on Wednesday. |

Good luck to him. i know he was a bit arrogant but I wish him the best. if he can blast 40 plus homers in japan then he is the real deal.
Did anybody see LG Sakers today, boy did they suck  |

I'm not a huge fan of LSY and think he should take the money and start at AAA. If he is the real deal, he will be in the MLB in a week. Easy as that. I know last year at spring training he didn't leave that big of impression...so who knows...if he goes to MLB or Japan...good luck..if he comes back to the KBO...it just means more fans and more chances to get a HR ball.
did't see the LG game, but i know SK got beat again...
btw, where did ryan perriman go? he get injured? |

SK are sucking except for Bradford and occasionally Cho Sung Won. Hope you like the cellar 
Yeah, perryman finally blew his knee so they got a new import in, his name is Evans. haven't met him yet. Good at the garbage and reboundign but his offence is pretty dodgy. Thomas had better step it up. |

Looks like he should have taken the contract to play in the US, even if it is the minors....because he just got sent down to the minors in Japan.

I like LSY, even though I never bought into the "Asian Home Run King" fantasy/hype pushed by the delusional Korean press. (He sure didn't need that kind of unrealistic media coverage either.) Examples of this silliness abound: Seo for the NY Mets has been referred to as their "ace" pitcher, even though he had a losing record last season, started this season in the minors, and hasn't done much to impress since returning to the bigs. Choi Hee-seop, the Marlins 1st baseman who got off to a great start this season - but has since cooled off a lot - was already - prematurely and inaccurately - crowned an All Star and possible home run titlist within the second week of a six month season. Same goes for soccer players who haven't exactly set European leagues on fire.
Kind of like that "Hub of Asia", $20 000/capita GDP, Korean pop stars taking the world by storm, etc. predictions one reads about in non-sports news here. Wishful thinking, best case scenario, shameless self-promotion, that doesn't much resemble news as we should expect it to be reported in a reasonably prosperous, highly educated democracy. (Having been in Korea for a number of years, I'm looking forward to being proven wrong about this someday!)
I'm fairly certain that there will be a wave of conspiracy theories as to how the Japanese - players, managers, or all Japanese in general - are sticking it to Lee because he's a Korean. (One solution to losing face would be not to say/print such outrageous nonsense in the first place, but once the damage is done, covering up is the only course of action!) Or, choosing to forget Lee for a while, the sports tabloids will focus on another Korean player who is destined to be the next big thing (even if he has never been heard of outside the "Hub of Asia".) |

This was the first thought to enter my brain as well, it will be all the Japanese fault as they didn't put him in the right spot, didn't give him enough chances, didn't give him enough time, etc.,etc.
I suppose it is just human nature to blame someone else but these Koreans have got it down to an artform .
Something has got to sell the truckload of sport/gossip/tabloid newspapers that are sold in this country everyday. They do make good reading though. |

Yep, it's laughable. Bad enough when Kim Byung-hyun came back and started doing it, and he was (he just lost his spot in the rotation) an established MLB player.
