First Blood is a great underrated movie. It has a good story line about a Vietnam vet, whois " lost" since returning from the war.

The action is fantastic without any over the top scenes.

Too bad the other two Rambo moviea are such crap especially Rambo 3.

Another great role for Sly was Death Race 2000.

Honestly, what is Stallone, like, 65 now? Who is still paying to see him with his shirt off in Rockys and Rambos?

You people are sick.

The movie First Blood severely alters the theme of the book by making Rambo more sympathetic and demonizing the police and national guard.

By never having Rambo directly kill any of the police officers and their deaths being brought about by their own maniacal desire to capture Rambo, there is a complete role reversal.

This reversal propels Rambo into the seat of hero instead of that of the cold blooded killer that he was in the novel. Furthermore, in the film, Rambo surrenders to Trautman and is sent to prison for the sequel, Rambo: First Blood Part II, while in the novel.............
Question Question Wink

In the book, it was set in Kentucky, Rambo was 23 and both Rambo and the sherriff were killed. Morell was pissed at first what Stallone did to his book and started to speak out. Stallone paid him big $$ to write Rambo 2, and he shut up. Rambo 1 was good, but like all Stallone's movies, the higher the number (sequels) the stupider they get.

The Super Action channel on tv is just over half way through showing all the Rambo's. #1 earlier #2 has just finished, now #3 is just starting, not sure if they'll show #4 after.

"John!" "Come on John" hahaha! Priceless!

##Holy smokies, they actually did!

MOVIE REVIEW

Rambo

Warning: 18A: Frequent explicit violence. 92 minutes
As John Rambo, Sylvester Stallone might be able to charm snakes but not movie critics. The Province's Glen Schaefer suggests you might want to ssssstay away from the latest take on the jungle tough guy.

Has it come to this for poor John Rambo? The character's first appearance in 1982's B.C.-filmed First Blood was an unambitious but rousing adventure based on David Morrell's novel, with the dewy-cheeked Sylvester Stallone as a traumatized Vietnam veteran whose commando skills come back when he's roughed up by some small-town cops. He memorably takes to the uncredited woods of Stanley Park to square off against hundreds of lawmen.

He's probably calmed down since then.

It seems like a lot of actors, maybe even most, are people with terrible personalities. Considering the line of work they're in and all the attention they get, I think there's reason for it. Not justification, but at least there's an explanation as to how it happens.

This doesn't mean we can't appreciate their work though, and I do enjoy the Rambo series (the fourth was too short*, but I thought it was good otherwise).

I too quite liked the 4th rambo. It's full of carnage on par with the opening segment of saving private ryan. Sly doesn't do much in the talking department and parts of the plot are ludicrous ("i'm not taking you up river"....girl stands in the rain for a few hours outside his hut...."ok, i'll take you up river") but it's still a good eye candy movie.

If you watch the DVD extras (I think that's where I saw it) on the movie, "Victory" you might find a commentary about Stallone's love of self (although they didn't call it that).

Stallone INSISTED that he should score the winning goal at the end of the movie. This was a huge sticking point. Why? Because the man knew NOTHING about soccer (English football). Zip... nada...

He was the goalie in that film.

According to the crew, they spent a lot of time trying to convince him that there was no believable way for a goalie to score the winning goal in a soccer game. They finally compromised with allowing him to block the very important kick in the end, and a tie that way.

Yes, he is that in love with himself.

The movie is cool and its fun to see him wasting all those hick western Colorado cops... but that scene at the end where he's like, "I was talking to my friend and then there was an explosion and then this stuff all over me... do you know what it was?? It was my FRIEND, my FRIEND" was lame.

Guess you missed the best part of the movie then. The fact that he was a vet who returned to find all his friends were dead, and those he had back in the field died...the fact that society had no place for those who gave their lives in Vietnam is a great theme and actually makes the movie more than just a kill fest.

The initial screening of Rambo had him killing himself. However there was a poor crowd reaction so they changed the ending. You can see the suicide in the newest box-set version by Lion's Gate, although this version is actually worse in most other ways to Artisan's release.

What kind of question is that? What kind of weapons does Rocky have?
There would be no contest. But there is one problem, the same act plays them both. Very Happy

You have clearly never speant an hour patiently trying to explain to high school sophomores that Rambo is not real, nor are any of the movies an accurate reflection of history.

Yes, I know. Movies are not real or truthful. Try telling that to a high school sophomore.

PS: It is, after all these years, still a chore to overcome the distaste for Sly because he spent his war years in a girls' school in Switzerland but became a millionaire making films about how patriotic he was defending America against various and sundry enemies. Our current president, vice president and former Sec. of Defense had nothing on ole Sly when it came to being war wimps.

You could also say the same thing about John Wayne. Although one of the most iconic figures in 20th century war movies, Wayne never did time in the military let alone fight in a real battle. There was an instance where Wayne was visiting some troops and one of the guys asked him "How is the military now as compare to when you were in?" Wayne just looked down at the ground and began making circles in the dirt with his foot and replied " Well, it's still the same old sh!t". That episode became a regular item of humor among military guys.
