As I continue my quest for a car, it's occurred to me I should look into the price of renting. Does anyone know if there are car rental places in Korea that charge a weekly rather than monthly rate? Where would I begin looking for this sort of thing?

I'll be here at least another year and a half.

I'm looking at car rental as a viable alternative to ownership. In Minneapolis, for example, you can rent and insure a super cheap to drive compact car for $250.00 a month. I have no idea whether Korea has such a setup, but I'd be remiss if I didn't look into it while I was also hunting for a car to buy.

You need a korean drivers licence to rent a car or an international licence...If you have a Korean drivers licence you have to have had it for a year to be able to rent a car...

Check on the seoul metro website and there is a list of places you can rent from

The only thing the Seoul Metro lists is Hertz. And their price doesn't suit my purposes.

It's not true about having to drive for a year on a Korean Licence before you're allowed to hire. Maybe for the big companies but not for the smaller ones.

I got my Korean licence last month. I went to a local rental place. I live in a small city of only 30 000 people. I went with my co-teacher. I got a brand new Daewoo Tosca LPG automatic for 70 000 a day. We had it for 3 days so they knocked the price from 90 000 won down to 70 000 won. If you hire for more than two days, you can haggle a little. The smaller ones are definitely open to offers for a longer period.

It was a road trip down to Pohang and up the coast. Excellent trip, so much fun. There was five of us so the rental worked out at 42 000 each and we only used 100 000 won on LPG. So total worked out at 62 000 each. Bargain!

Although minus a GPS system, waiting for a couple of tickets....possibly. Korea is a pain without GPS, and I thought England had a lot of speed cameras.
