If this is completely false, then please just delete this thread, but i just heard that there was ANOTHER big oil spill off the coast of yeosu in the south sea.

Apparently it happened, like, an hour ago. I'm watching the one korean news channel i have on the tv (no cable) and there's nothing there.

Can anyone confirm this?

I guess we'll find out in the morning, but i'm kinda' curious if anyone else has heard about this

Confirmed: http://news.naver.com/main/read.nhn?mode=LS2D&mid=sec&sid1=102&sid2=249&oid=001&aid=0001996537

There was also a chemical spill off Yeosu in December in which 14 sailors went missing: http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/national/2007/12/25/95/0302000000AEN20071225001500315F.HTML

I'm in Yeosu. I've just sent a text to a local KFEM friend to find out more. Does anyone else want to help if they need to do another clean-up?

There's no news of it in the English media yet. I'll do a rough translation of the Naver article after lunch.

based on a glance at the Naver article and my shitty Korean it looks like a fishing boat and an oil tanker collided and 50 kiloliters (13,206 + gallons) were released. Roughly 2.7 million gallons were released during the spill in December, so this is a comparatively small spill. Still, if there's any clean-up that can be done, or that will be done, keep us posted and I'll pass it along.

Wonder who is going to be blamed this time. When the Samsung barge hit the Oil Tanker, the Indian Captain of the oil tanker was being blamed. He was charged and taken to court.
Does anyone know what happened to the poor guy?

I phoned the local KFEM office between classes and they said (I think - damn my shitty Korean listening level) that the spilled oil is not heading towards the shore and will break down in the sea.

I'll confirm this later today and post again.
