because America is built on its' Military Industrial Complex, and a constant barrage of "threats" to "the homeland", and it will do anything to sustain this power. all chavez did was call bush the devil. big fucking deal. he probably is at least a cousin of lucifer. Cheney is certainly a relation. you hate chavez because he has america by the *beep* and curlies, since you won't stop driving your 8 miles to the gallon Suburbans. the "uranium" find is so sad and pathetic. nobody takes America at face value, even Americans. it's all so fake and transparant. my god, only in america could something as ridiculous as fox newz exist. it's a national disgrace.
but, hey, "I support the troops". always gotta say that. America. Taking it's marching orders from Bill O'Reilly, Oprah, Hannity, the NY Times. |
Good work, you've just proven Pluto's, BB's, and Gopher's point. When faced with the arduous task of defending Hugo on the merits, just call your opponents sheep. |

Read the link I posted for the Chronic. It speaks to Hugo's merits very clearly. And America is sheep, thanks to your tiny concentration of media tied to lobbying and big business. Watch the documentary "Orwell rolls over in his grave" to see what has happened to the once storied American media. You can thank them for the 59% of Americans who thought Saddam was directly responsible for 9-11, before the invasion of Iraq. Bush/Cheney have taken the lesson of Goebbels and ran with it:
Repeat a lie long enough and it will become "the truth" (paraphrasing). this is certainly their mantra, and it's worked remarkably well. |

One clich after another. The far left speaks. You take them uncritically and at face-value. No substance to offer. And no surprises, either.
As this guy might have said...
Whoop-dee-dee and la-dee-fucking-da.

I love how you call facts "cliches". I just wish it were a cliche for most of the American public, who have never heard most of what the rest of the world considers cliche. guess you didn't read the link, either. |

You are about to enter an exalted pantheon of Leftwing posters to this board, previously the exclusive domain of Our Dear Leader EFLTrainer and his servants BLT and keane.
Just a few more inane responses like this and it's a done deal:

Now, aside from the fact that the Bush Administration's policy toward Chavez predates by a year the latter's antics when addressing the UN General Assembly, I have one "burning" question:
Are you sure he's Lucifer's cousin because I think one of your fellow Lefties, Prof. Peter McLaren of UCLA, referred to Bush as the Devil's helper on one of his recent trips to Caracas.
Please clarify at your earliest convenience.... |

Bush is shithead. Chavez is a shithead.
For the love of Christ McMasculine, address ONE post on its merits and content rather than prefacing every retort to a liberal poster with "you're a Lefty, now answer for these fringe wackos" drivel. Yes, I am a liberal. That's why I say what I do. Move along and address content instead of your standard petulant namecalling. JUST ONCE. ONE POST. |

All you've done is introduce another vague term, The Military Industrial Complex. Who inside the 'Complex' is doing "anything to sustain this power?" Again, another meaningless allegation. You've yet to indict any specific individual or organization.
I don't 'hate' Chavez nor does he have America by the balls. In fact, I know of no one that drives an 8mpg Suburban. The US has the strongest most sophisticated, most diverse economy in the world. So, it's a little hard to see how some tin pot dictator in Latin America can have America by the ballls.
Also, if you don't like Fox News, Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity, you can pick up the The Wall Street Journal. If you don't like the NY Times, read the HuffPo. For those that don't like Oprah, they can watch HDTV or the Food Network. The various media have differing viewpoints, editorial boards with different philosophies and different readership. Point is, there a many media in the United States; they are extremely diverse much like the rest of the US economy. There are very few state owned media which makes the industry stronger in my opinion.
Anyways, you've got nothing but sensationalized allegations. Quit using vague terms such as multinationals and military industrial complex. Offer something specific and meaningful instead of this sensationalized allegation driven nonsense.

Mcgarrett,
If Venezuela didn't have oil, Bush wouldn't even know or care who the president of that country was. Dispute this. |

Blase,
I read your Chronic link. Perhaps Chavez has put a dent in the poverty percentages, but at what price? The massive social spending is leading to inflation, which hurts the poor most. The people of Venezuela do not have confidence in their own currency. |

(It's a: "When did you stop beating your wife?" type of question)
Obvious straw-man.
Bring some meat. |

Most of your media is owned by 6 multinational corporations. 15 years ago, it was 50 corporations. The biggest lobby in Washington is the media lobby. They are in bed with Washington. Why do you think the media don't cover FCC actions relating to media mergers?

You've actually supported my point. Bush doesn't give a shit about what Chavez does, who he is, what he says, or what he does to affect the lives of Venezuelans in a good or bad way. He only cares if America can get access to oil, and preferrably at a discount. |

$2 Trillion cost to American taxpayers: invasion and maintenance of Iraq.
Who do you think benefits from this? The Iraqi people?

In case you didn't notice, the U.S. is a debtor nation, propped up by middle eastern oil money and Yen. Mr. Tin Pot is the 3rd or 4th largest oil exporter to America. When Chavez sneezes, American industry quivers. |

You mean like how the Federal Reserve prints money to help Wall Street? Which is far more damaging to the poor and middle class of America than anything Chavez has done. By the way, inflation is up everywhere, not just in Venezuela. Lack of currency confidence? Welcome to every country in the world. |

No, I don't think they're the same thing. The Federal Reserve issues money to rejuvenate the entire economy. Chavez is funnelling oil money through corrupt state channels, and the poor are lucky to get a piece of it once the generals have taken their shares. |
