On its merits and content?
This thread treats Chavez and his latest dramatic diplomatic showdown with a neighbor.
You and your friends here have done your best to hijack the entire thread and make it about the United States and/or George W. Bush. Look at your comments, above, where before you recognize that Chavez is a shithead, you are compelled and unable to resist first stating that W. Bush, too, is a shithead -- as if this somehow mitigates or undermines Chavez's shitheadedness.
You and Blaseblasphemener and the others like you are so intertwined in and obsessed with the left's U.S.-centric worldview that you simply cannot discuss Venezuela without spitting invective at America, the force that opposes all that is good in the universe; the puppetmaster who pulls all the strings.
Face it: you are twisted.

May I help a little here?

(It's a: "When did you stop beating your wife?" type of question)
Obvious straw-man.
Bring some meat. |
You've actually supported my point. Bush doesn't give a *beep* about what Chavez does, who he is, what he says, or what he does to affect the lives of Venezuelans in a good or bad way. He only cares if America can get access to oil, and preferrably at a discount. |
When you fill the tank of your car what is your purchase motive?
Let me guess, you always choose the highest price
so Hugo gets the best profit.
Quick without using wicki name the president of Paraguay?
Do you know?
Do you care? |

| Of course I don't care. It's their country, let them govern it as they see fit. Don't channel money to opposition parties/generals to stage coups. Leave 'me the *beep* alone. |

I have said nothing of the kind in regards to worldview. You have a weak and narrow mind, and that is why you fail to see any ambiguity or nuance, although you pretend to do so with your overuse of 100-level political science buzzwords. Bush IS a shithead, I stated a fact. You can play amateur pyschologist all you want. You are a hack, and eminently unqualified to make the pretentious statements that you do. |

America was beloved during the Clinton years, even though it was still doing a lot of dastardly shit. That was because it also did a lot of good too, and at least made the effort to try and look like it cared about something other than itself. Hopefully Obama will bring a less egocentric world view to America. |

Again, cite your evidence that the United States govt has evern channeled money to opposition parties/generals to stage coups in Chavez's Venezuela. And while you are at it, who exactly in the United States govt authorized and then carried this out, and which opposition parties, which generals, and which coups exactly are you talking about? Be specific with your allegation-driven discourse.
I have asked you this at least once on this thread. You keep ignoring the questions. The truth is, you have no idea. In fact, you are lying. |

Nothing Blase' has posted can be categorized as direct evidence.
Posing straw man arguments making unsubstantiated claims.
Outright gutter argumentation. |

Welcome to the left's argumentation style. They see it as a street fight where the ends (social justice and the universal good, as they see it) justify the means (allegation-driven discourse and outright fabrications).
Ever see the South Park episode with Rob Reiner...?
Butt Out

| The various media have differing viewpoints, editorial boards with different philosophies and different readership. Point is, there a many media in the United States; they are extremely diverse much like the rest of the US economy. |
Most of your media is owned by 6 multinational corporations. 15 years ago, it was 50 corporations. The biggest lobby in Washington is the media lobby. They are in bed with Washington. Why do you think the media don't cover FCC actions relating to media mergers?
|
The media are free to cover whatever they wish. Besides media such as The New Republic, The Drudge Report, HuffPo, and others aren't owned by any of these six corporations. As far as reducing the lobby interests, the best way to deal with them is to lower taxes and get rid of this burdensome regulation.
As an aside, I own shares in viacom which makes me a part owner in one of these 'multinationals.' Funny thing is that you can improve your lot by investing too; something that Chavez will not allow the millions of his gov't dependents to do.
I won't talk about the red herring, Iraq, that you've introduced. It's got nothing to do with this discussion. Unless you know someone specific inside 'the complex' that is interfering with Venezuela's interests.
Your idea of the US being propped up by Middle Eastern regimes and Japanese yen is just plain silly, also. The U.S. economy is the most diversified and strongest in the world. That means the US economy produces the most opportunities with the least risk. Venezuela's, on the other hand, is practically pegged to the price of oil with hardly any diversification. Even with a 20% drop in oil, Venezuela's economy will be in a lot of trouble. Cracks are already showing with the high inflation rates(3 times that of the US) and food shortages that are getting worse.

I don't think he's lying. He saw a doco with a lot of fancy editing and grim music and just ate it up without thinking critically. The doco was directed by John Pilger. Pilger is a socialist cheerleader who has had an unreasonable grudge against the US since the day he picked up a pen. I understand you're trying to challenge him to think critically but to do that he would need to diversify his media consumption; it would help to read a newspaper from time to time. |
