I'm thinking of marrying my Korean future ex-wife.
What would happen to my F2 after the divorce? Can I keep it? Will I have permanent residence? |

Well, according to many people on the board and to what I have read on the subject, you have to have been married for X amount of years and stayed on an F-2 visa during that time or you have to have been on an E2 visa continuously for up to 5 years to be eligible for an F5.
If you get divorced while still on an F2, you forfeit the visa altogether and you have to get either an E2 visa, to work in Korea legally or a touist visa.
And I hear from many posters that one of the only ways you can stay in the country on an F5 visa is if the divorce was given because of something the Korean spouse did.
I know someone will come along soon and give you more indepth knowledge about the situation.
Though, I am not quite sure what you are asking:
~ Are you trying to divorce one woman in Korea to marry another?
- I would say if that is the case, the sponsorship of your visa will go from your previous wife to your new wife......talk about bonded slavery [j/k] |

living in kunsan is correct.
You lose it.
I believe if you have an F-5 visa, you can keep it even in the event of a divorce, but not 100% certain. |

I reckon he is thinking it won't be a long marriage.
Either that or he is looking for a multi-millionaire to marry and duly divorce.
Wouldn't recommend marriage in there is uncertainty, or lack of commitment. |

Let me see if I have this right. You plan to get married solely for the F-2 visa and soon as you have it divorce your wife? |

The F-2 is a spouse visa. If you are divorced, you lose it.
The F-5 is a permanent residency visa. If you divorce, you keep it.

Having an F-2 visa for 2 years does not guarantee you will get an F-5. I know some people who have been on an F-2 visa for over 8 years & were refused an F-5 visa several times.
If all your paperwork is in order, your background & credentials are clean. You should have no problem.
