I heard they suck live, but I've never seen them. Aenima and Lateralus are their best work IMO. |
I had only ever heard the opposite and then got to judge for myself. I thought they put on a helluva show.
I agree with the rest of what you said. |

| Tool rules. I listened to Opiate on my way home from work today. Jerk-Off being my personal favorite. |

The thing about Maynard is that he's not always about being the center of attention- very unusual for a front man. |
I agree with you Benicio. I went to their show in Atlanta before coming to Korea and it rocked my socks off! I've been to a few metal/rock shows and I was so impressed when Maynard took a step back from the front stage. The band played the music and you could just feel it resonating all over your body.
Favorite album: Aenima, though I have to say the artwork and packing on 10,000 Days was very creative
I wish I could have seen H. performed live, I never get tired of hearing that song. |

The whole thing is that it's not about looking at them really. It's about experiencing the music. That's why they focus more on the screen visuals. They mostly just stand there.
They are a very different sort of band and I love them! |
I partially agree that it's an overall experiance and he doesn't want to be the center of attention. That's fine. But when you only see a glimpse of him once or twice during a show it's a bit dissapointing. You would like to see the emotion behind the lyrics conveyed in his face every once in a while. |

| To hell with them. Stop listening to stuff that they put on the radio, instead try Skinny Puppy or Front Line Assembly and you will never go back. |

By no means do they suck live. Caught them for the first time last June at Bonnaroo.
However, any band can have an off night, but Tool I doubt it. |

| easily one of my all time favorite bands. i really hadn't listened to them much in years, largely because i overplayed them a few years back, but parabola came on my ipod last weekend and i really had no choice but to rock out. i've been to 3 shows, one on the aenima tour, one at ozfest in 98, and one on the lateralus tour. the aenima show was at my university so i worked the show to get in for free, and i got to watch the sound check in (stinkfist, eulogy) in a basically empty arena. kicked ass. |

I used to like Tool for years, until I saw this video of Maynard beating-up a disoriented/drunk fan on stage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtIRr9B9Hnk
Call it what you want, and yes the fan was out-of-line going up there, but it ruined my respect for the band.
In my eyes, it's no different than some random guy on the street attacking a drunk/virtually defenseless person for fun. Only a total puss_y would do that. |

| I listened to opiate and undertow a lot in high school. Bought AEnima and listened to a bit then more-less forgot about them. The thing I remember most was the video to sober. Messed up meat-tube thing, ugh.. |

Where's the "beating"? He threw the guy to the ground and held him there.
I dig Tool, but there's a lot of filler on their albums, especially post-Undertow. |

i only saw them once for the lateralus tour. agreed, maynard wasn't very visible, but it was an awesome show. i remember that the melvins opened for them, and they were fantastic too.
tool's great, esp lateralus and aenima. but i don't really understand people that think they are god's gift. usually find people that think that are really aggressive for some reason.
also think maynard must p.iss himself every time he sees somebody wearing a tool cap - funny bast.ard!! |

I got hooked when I heard and saw the "Sober" video. I've seen then twice in the USA, the show was unbeatable. I saw them once in Korea when they opened for Metallica. They lacked the stage visuals and energy they always had. I was disappointed, but maybe they were tired or acting like an opening band.
They are one of the best bands in the history of humankind. |

Beating up? Huh? Some guy jumped on stage and Maynard slammed him down and choked him out (drunk, high, whatever - numbnuts shouldn't have interfered with the show). The cool thing is that Maynard continued to sing and didn't miss a note throughout the entire struggle. If anything, I respect Maynard more now. |
