Could anyone give me the names of any good dance clubs in Seoul, or tell me what thread I should be looking at?
I would assume Hongdae is the place to go, but if anyone has any place specific in mind that I should know about, please let me know! |

Is onnst onnst how you spell typical, annoying dance club beat?
I miss 80s dance clubs! There was this one place in DC called Polly Esther's which was just so cool, and in Boston, Axis had 80s Night every week or so. (sigh)
I'm not really sure what we'll be looking for. Is Hongdae the place to dance, or do you know of anywhere else that is pretty cool? |

every now and again, the dj at stompers in hongdae will get into an 80's mood. he's a cool guy, and is really into 80's music, but as most clubgoers tend not to be, he has to appease the masses. but, as he is also the owner of the club, he decides to blow off the masses and squeeze some 80's tunes in there. |

Hongdae is the place to go unless you want to go for the real "Korean Night Club Experience". I would make a distinction here between nightclubs and danceclubs. A real Nightclub in Korea will cost you big bucks....you'll have to pay for a table and there will be a minimum food/drink purchase required. The waiters will all be wearing suits and the place will be totally overdone......playing mostly Korean dance music....maybe some live acts.
If you go to Hongdae you'll find smaller little clubs that don't have as many tables and usually have dj's spinning vinyl. You'll pay 10 000won at the door and get a free drink at most places. Most places play Hip Hop, and house/drum and base/etc.....electronic music. If you're looking for 80's music I'm not sure where to go. You might try Ska. I've always had a good time there. It's a dance bar but they play some old stuff from the 80's mixed with some newer stuff. |

Ska (spelt Sk@ on the sign) is a mixed bag of good, fun pop music- I'd definitely recommend it over Stompers which is always crowded and has too much attitude for me.
Hodge Podge is pretty good fun, ram packed as well, but the music can be good and varies all over the place. If you mean dance music as in house/trance/techno, try Club MI, Joker Red and Matmata.
There's a few options there, but since tonight is 'Club day' you should be able to get into all of them for one price (15,000 I think)- just go to one of those clubs and buy the wrist band, then move from place to place- the money might even include a free drink too depending on where you go first.
There's a map of these places at....http://worknplay.co.kr/entertainment/barclub/listbar.aspx?AreaCode=1101 |
