The other night I was in front of the Kyobo Building and trying to take some shots of Admiral Yi. Basically testing my new gear and see how it functions in low light situations. Anyway, as I was about to take a photo, suddenly one of the young cops approached me and said that I can't take any photos.
I asked politely in Korean why it was not allowed, he didn't give me any good explanation. It was just forbidden. Well, since he's the law in a sense and doing his job... or more likely his military service, I packed my camera and went my way.
I think he thought that my camera's flash might cause car accident. Naturally I could have told him that with my brand new and fast Canon "L" lens and ISO upped to 1600, I won't be using any flash, but... |

This wasn't even a police officer, just two random Koreans pissed at me for taking photos of other Koreans, one of them shaking his fist at me and yelling at me. In any case, I found the posts on Metro's blog and I was completely in the clear. |

Hmm. What does that mean? Do we need permission from everyone in each of our shots of city skylines and nearby wayfarers in Seoul? |

HA HA HA HA!
Your brother in law is a Korean cop? And you think Korean cops here know what they're talking about? |

It means he didn't read either of the links and his brother was lying to save face for being clueless.

Blog info was pretty helpful, if a bit verbose. Needed a proxy to view it though.
Also, the guy recommends explaining all these details of the law to someone if they give you crap, but what if you speak no or very limited Korean like me? |
