What is this area like? Are there any shops/bars/interesting places to go when you're not teaching? Also, is it easy to travel around Seoul from here, or is it a bit of a mission?

It's not too far from Jamshil, but unless you like Lotte World you'd have to travel a long way to get to the usual places. I'd say it's basically a yuppie area.

I live around Bangi...in Ogeum Dong myself!

The area is not too great in my opinion. It is kinda inconvenient to get to other parts of Seoul. It is on the Line 5 subway which isnt too bad but expect to make lots of long trips to more "happening' places..I would recommend getting used to the bus routes around there which make getting to Jamsil, Coex or on the Line 2 easier than on the Subway!! http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteWebApp/view_english/map.jsp is a great guide. You can scroll around ur areas and find out the bus routes etc..

It has its advantages..in that it is relatively quiet and Olympic Park is nearby. If you like going to parks or getting fresher air than more central areas in Seoul then its ok too.. Also there is a realy big and great Jimjilbang which has about 6 floors in Bangi.. It has a pool, health club, saunas...baths..jacuzzis etc.. I have a membership there and its a great resource!

Anyway..Bangi is not too bad. It doesnt have the greatest of options of things to do, but anyway..with the bus or subway in Seoul you are never too far away from anything!!

Im sure there are a lot worse places in Seoul to be!!

Hope it helps some.. If you have anything else specific to ask just let me know!!

Not everyone is dead set on hanging out in Itaewon, Hongdae, or Sinchon. I think the Jamsil/Olympic Park area is a nice alternative. If you want to hang out and bar it up with "whitey" then maybe you should live closer to the afore mentioned spots.

i agree, i dont want to be hanging out there all the time. i do want to be in an area that isnt quiet though. im going over by myself so i'd like a lot of distractions when im not teaching and things to do to meet people.
