So, I decided what to get, got approval from my wife, and I started heading to Yongsan. And, I decided that it's still too soon. I'm going to wait for six months, or until the prices go down some. I'm hoping that with the Quads starting to hit the markets, the prices for higher end Duals will drop.
So, I bought a new hard drive, and I'm going to buy myself a nice new phone this weekend, instead.

If you wait 9 months, you may as well wait 2 years for the following generation to come out. Waiting is pointless, you're going to spend the money, may as well spend it now & enjoy your system right away.

With all due respect, there's a rather huge difference between 3 months and and 15 months. Though the "waiting is pointless" thing is true to some degree, it DOES make sense to wait if you're near a big release in the CPU or GPU department, and the Nahalem is supposed to be the biggest release since the pentium pro...
That said, I'll be buying PC myself in September as soon as I get home, precisely because I can't wait.
If I was the OP I'd buy now or when they launch the Nahalem. |

Agree with the guys above.
The waiting game is pointless unless it's that point in time, which is roughly every two years, when Intel release a new generation.
As long as you have a 45nm compatible motherboard then just get a well priced chip from the current crop, get your PC up and running, then upgrade the processor when the next generation come out. |

| It worked for me. Just showed a desk with 3 LCDs 3 mice and 3 keyboards on it. I do remember the towers being strangely absent though... |

I'm waiting this time because for the price, I'm not getting enough of an improvement. For the money, I don't see that my computer will be that much faster. Yeah, it'll be faster, but not that much.
So, I'm waiting for a few months so that I will be happy with the increased performance, not just content with it. I can do without an OSX86 computer for a few more months, if it means my Vista PC will be better.
I think sometimes, waiting is better. When I upgraded last time, I had to. My old computer was overwhelmed. So, I researched a little, went to the shop and bought it. I waited on buying more RAM, and when I bought more, my performance got a little better, and I saved a little money. I also waited on the video card. I got a fairly cheap one, and it was just enough to play the games I wanted. But, a few months ago, I got a new game, bought a new video card, one that wasn't even available when I upgraded the board and cpu. Now, my computer does everything I want it to, I'm just bored with it.
So, I can wait. And, I am getting a new cell phone, so that will keep me happy for a few months. |

Well it all depends on your budget. My PC is two years old, and I plan to get another 1.5 years from it before I upgrade. I consider myself a keen gamer, but I content myself with the games that will run on it. There's plenty to choose from.
Someone who stays cutting edge spends a lot more than someone who buys a mainstream system every few years and runs it into the ground. Instead of waiting for the next big release though, I'd simply advise waiting until your current system no longer does what you want it to. That's a better yardstick IMO. |

I'm well and truly bored with mine, but will buying a new one be truly exciting? I can't remember the last time I got truly excited about a new tech. It seems to be a case of predictably better and faster each year. I think it's getting to the stage where computers are simply commodities and getting excited over them makes as much sense as getting a hardon over a carton of milk. |
