I had a Digimon.
There was a Cherry.
There was also an H.O.T. He was named after the boy band. I called him hot because I was not going to recite three letters of the alphabet everytime I wanted his attention.
I named two sisters Jenny once. They didn't want to change after. |

2 brothers called Mark. I tried calling one Marcus and the other mark but trhat just made them cry.
Girl called Pinky.
Girl called Pro. Don't know why the name but considering her behaviour in class thats gonna be her career as well.
Girl called Lilly (possibly the hardest name for a Korean to pronounce. ie: comes out sounding like "Irry"). One day in class we were discussing descriptive words and she now prefers the name of Smelly. Even though she knows what it means. If I insist on calling her Lilly she has a tantrum and bawls her little eyes out. |

| When I worked at hagwan, some of my kids like to name themselves after animals. In one class I had two boys named "Giraffe" and "Walrus". |

| I had a girl who had been named John for some bizarre reason by some maniac, she'd had the name so long that even when I told her it was a boys name she refused to change it! |

Not too many weird names at my school.
Annoying thing is so many kids with the same name, and it's always the dull-as-dishwater names: Jane, John, etc.
I did name one of my kids "Chandler", and one girl recently changed hers to "Jerry" from Tom & Jerry. |

I have a boy in my elementary age class who decided that 'Hamburger Cheese" Suited him well. I agreed. Why not? It lets them have fun with the language...and isn't that part of what we're teaching? I mean, if we don't want to use thier REAL names...who are we to choose?
I also had P6LT once...never DID get what THAT was about... |

| Right now I have a boy named Later. He thinks it is the most clever name in the history of mankind, since he likes to write "see you later" and then sign it Later. I have a pickle and a mustard (in the same class) a boy named Junebug and a lot of geographical names (Chicago, Montana, Little Italy). The worst part is that I find they are the easiest names to remember. |

Hey all...
I have a guy in High School or Middle School called Gandalf. The wizard out of Lord of the Rings. I had to do this phone test with my students where i actually have to phone them up and ask them pre-rewiew questions. We were going through the questions in class and the questions were...
Who is your best friend? His reply, Arrogon (other character from LOTR)
Where do they live? In the mountains.
What do you do together? We fight together.
I had to stop the lesson a few minutes because we were all laughing to hard to continue. I have a guy called McDonald. His best friend apparently is KFC.

| I've got a La-La, Sharlock (supposed to be Sherlock Holmes), The Rock, James Bond, and of course Jelly which is the name of a really pudgy boy. Ahh, the joy. These have kept me laughing for weeks. |

my first school I had a Zeratul, I thought that was the coolest name ever, made me consider changing MY name.
Also had two Pickachu's, and 3 John's who ended up in the same class
current school uses computer program to give names, so we don't have duplication but we do have some ridiculous ones like Pinky, Tigris and Joshep which has got to be a misspelling, but the name has stuck.
I once had a young guy named Peter who one day changed his name to Catherine. Couldn't tell me why, and neither myself nor the Korean teacher translating that it wa a girl's name could convince him otherwise.
Most annoying thing is when they tell you that you're mispronouncing it. Anna insisted to me it was "enna" and Lindsay would only answer to Lin-say
I hope Zeratul keeps his name forever, and if the foreign teacher who gave him the name is reading, well done!! |
