I'll be leaving next week for a teaching assignment in Chang Won. I know where this city is located, however, I've never been there. If anyone has any information about this city, it would be greatly appreciated. |

I've been in Changwon for about 2 months now after coming down from Seoul. the city is pretty good. Its the size of 'small town' korea but it doesnt feel that way, theres plenty of green, open spaces and everything is set up in reasonably logical way (i've been told the design was based on Canberra, the capital of Australia, but i dont know if this is true ). Taxis are cheap and you can get from one side of the city to the other for about $4. Theres an Emart, Home Plus and Lotte Mart all within easy reach and a spattering of western restaruants. Its alot less polluted than Seoul and in general the people are more polite. Foreigners are still pretty few and far between here though so you will come across the occasional child who will stare at you like you have two heads but its.
it you have anymore questions then let me know, and i'll try and answer for you... |

Its a nice enough place, its quiet. I think there is all the amineties that you want as regards creature comforts and it is pleasant to look at and clean. (in my opinion)
The centre is not too big, personally I would have preferred a big city like Seoul but thats because I'm an English chav hick and want to ride on a subway on a regular basis!
Just don't work for ETBT in Barnim Dong! |

BCM is adults only but it is a bloody rough job....got some horro split shifts so I hope you can learn how to take 2 sleeps a day.
In saying that the owner is reputable and you shouldn't have any issues so that should be one load off your mind....
Been in Changwon over 6 years, love it, wouldn't live anywhere else in Korea...... |

I know the guy that has just taken that job....we gave him some warnings but he said he will be fine, if things get ugly he will just run as he has done a year already and is looking to just pad his account a little bit more first.
If things go well for a year then he said that will be fine to. |

I love Changwon, it is really green and if you like being outside its the perfect place. It is very clean, the people are nice, and the pollution is not so bad. I'm very happy here. |

I was wondering what happened there Thats fair enough, seek as you find thats what I say, he might like it or have a better relationship with the boss than I did but she is still going to try and rip him off but then again he is an experienced guy so maybe she wouldn't dare.
I wouldn't recommend it for anyone straight off the boat, the school is too small, too claustraphobic and she is going to rip you off while sticking you in a little room/studio which if you swung a rat around with its tail you would crack its skull. |

Changwon is a nice city, as other posters have said.
BCM will require split shifts, which are horrendous.
If you're interested in attending church, email me at elliemk at mindspring dot com. Lots of great people attend Hanbit Church.
Hope you have a good experience and are ready to work your a.s.s. off. That is what BCM will require of you! |

aye, changwon is a decent place. clean and safe enough. can get a bit boring at times though but the transport links to busan and other large places are good. it depends what you are looking for during your years experience. if you are the social type, the western community is quite tight with most willing to welcome new teachers. it is a smallish community here, some ( like me ) are a bit boring and just stay in the bar or at home but some are a bit more active and go away on trips etc. i would recommend the city to anyone moreso a new teacher as everyone is more than willing to offer up advice or help should the need arise. a lot of teachers actually re-sign or return after a time at home which is a good sign!
your job will be hard work but the weekends will more than make up for it!! |
