Pardon the question that I'm sure has been answered many times... but you know how the search function is...

I'm going to a wedding for my first time in Korea. Both bride and groom are Korean. I'm friends with the bride, who is a former co-worker of mine. What is an appropriate gift? I've heard that generally crisp, new bills in a white envelope is the preferred gift.

We aren't extremely close, but we keep in touch. 30k? 50k?

30k willo more than pay for your meal and drinks. It'll give them a little $$ for their pocket (or their mom's pocket).

If you give money at the wedding you'll be giving to the groom's family or the bride's family (make sure you give to the right side). The family will keep the money cause they paid for the wedding. If you want to give it to your co-worker give her the money before or after the wedding. Before is better.

Most people I talked to said that their parents used it to help them pay for their first house. Or just gave it to them.

I had to steal my wedding money here. The FIL was already to head to the *beep* house with it when I grabbed it.

another 'floating fund'..the father has paid out at many weddings and now it's his turn to get some back.
maybe why k/fil's got no kind words for me
no wedding ceremony = no 'white envelopes'.
