Why are there so many negative people posting on this forum?
I don't understand why they stay if they hate it so much.
I know that many people have had bad luck here and I am one of them.
My ex job went bankrupt owing me almost 5 million won. That doesn't mean that I hate Korea and Koreans. It was really bad luck and I am not happy but it is not the fault of all Koreans that the school went bankrupt.
Please don't be so negative. It is unhealthy. |

I agree very few actually. Most of them are quite fun and I seldom see the negative.
I have a theory about that. Often times people who don't know the forum (low post count), come on and say 'everyone is so negative here'.
My theory is that its a huge forum to look at.. and when they click around.. they ONLY focus on the negative stuff. So because that is all they click on, they perceive the entire thing to be negative.
If you check back more regularly, you'll read more than ONLY negative sounding topics and get a better more wholistic view of it.
I find the negative threads few and far between.. but they are the most popular unfortunately for people to click on and dwell on. |

Agreed, in fact I read a few things elsewhere saying "Why is everyone on Dave's so negative? That place is a nightmare" which put me off coming here for a long time, so when I did check it out I was (mostly) pleasantly surprised.
Not strictly on topic but I think it's ridiculous the way some people extrapolate their experiences with a snotty boss in a shtty Hagwon into generalisations about the whole of Korea/Koreans. |

It seems negative because people are naturally drawn to threads entitled "My boss should eat shit and die and here's why" moreso than threads entitled "Kittens make me smile". But maybe that's just me. |

The saying goes the complaining minority always make it harder for the silent majority.
There are good and bad things here. people just give their opinions and it balances out in the end |

I'm waiting for the day when a scientist announces to the world that they have found a new subspecies of human- the hagwon management. I'm reasonably sure that they are connected to lawyers somewhere on the evolutionary chain |

This is an ironic thread.. post a negative topic about negativity.
Plus when the original poster comes back to view it.. probably find people respond negatively to it.
Interesting.
But really, if you view often, I'd say at least 90% are more are far far from negative. |

Hehe- one thing that stuck out from the things I've read about Hagwon directors is when someone said their boss, who knew nothing about teaching or running a business, was given the Hagwon as a wedding present from their husband. If that's not a recipe for disaster I don't know what is.
"Kittens make me smile" <= that's comedy right there. |

I have come to realize most stuff is just nonsense time filler while at work or drunk.
The drunk posts are probably the most amusing to read - and the outrageous ones are good if you can catch them before a mod deleted/edits them.
If you are looking for negative, the old forums were much much much worse...they were so bad I stopped reading them, or checking ESL cafe out at all. |

Its like a newspaper here most of the time. If you want the human interest story you just have to read past the surface. Like the other post pointed out no one wants to read about "I like kittens, they make me happy." People post the newsworthy - how boring would this forum be if you just reported the mundane. "Got to work, had a couple maxims to wake up, made a new game today, after initial testing it needs a little tweaking, had some new rice dish for lunch - it was yummy - but next time add some sesame seeds, talked about the economy with my boss during break - he says its bad, rented a movie and fell asleep."
I will agree that intially, reading this forum before I came to Korea, I was on the verge of saying forget it - but that is mainly b/c I was trying to do job research and learn about contracts, severence, apartments, ect. and at first all you can find are horror stories. Its like a restaurant or any customer service experience in Korea right, 1 pissed of person has a score to settle and will tell anyone that will listen. But the other 9 feel no need to as they are content. |

Did everyone else somehow NOT NOTICE that the author of this thread is CPA? Back to amuse us?
Wow, your comments in the bibimbap thread all make sense now! And I was right about you being Korean too, though I'm sure you'll deny it.
Welcome back, troll! We missed you. |
