The secretary in my department said that immi have said the medical check is not necessary and i wont need one till march next year. The contract i signed was for 1st march and I was in Korea on 26th Feb 08.

does this sound suss or do you think it may signal a change in the e2 policy in practicality?

Personally it sounds to me like policy creep.

Sounds more to me like confusion over the grace period that ends today (March 15th). Just because you entered before March 15th doesn't mean you're exempt. The grace period applied ONLY to previous E-2 holders who were extending their sojourn on a valid visa.

If you applied for a NEW E-2 visa after December 15, 2007, you are subject to the new regulations. Therefore, when you apply for alien registration (no later than 90 days after entry), you must provide the results of a recruitment health exam (채용신체검사서) with the additional tests for HIV and illicit drugs.

Persons currently in Korea and extending their sojourn on a prior visa could extend without the health check prior to today. From March 16th on, all persons on E-2s extending their sojourns must provide the health exam report in order to process the extension.

You seem to know so much. Then can you tell me why everyone keeps saying E2 for these rules? What about E1?

I was told the same thing the other day and posted as much in a different thread - I honestly think they are suspending the med check until they figure out how to standardize it etc. probably don't want to pay for it either! Rolling Eyes

The new rules do not apply to E1, or so I have been told by my Uni. According to what I have been told by the guy who handles the VISAs for my uni, the new rules only apply to E2, E6, E7, and C4 VISAs.

Sounds like you lucked out. Who knows, maybe your school has some sort of "arrangement" with KImmi? In any case, congrats.

Why don't E1 Visas have the same rules?
