Ive heard that there is a cable that can be used to connect a computer to a TV so that DVDs can be played through the computer. Does anyone know where to find one of these?

It's called an S-video cable, and it can be bought at Yongsan. It's cheap.

First, be sure your PC or laptop has the appropriate port for the cable. Google it to see what one looks like.

Also, if your computer has Korean windows, you might find it next to impossible to find the correct display output settings. This is where I tripped up

I got the cable but I could never get it to work. Someone told me I need a special card for my computer.

Some graphics cards have S-video ports, others don't. On a PC it can be fairly cheap to replace a graphics card to one which does have an s-video port. On a laptop, if you don't have the port you're stuck (although I could be wrong here).

i have a divx player. it's basically a 350 gig hard drive with handy menus that i transfer my media to, and then plug it into my tv. very easy, and i can free up space on my pc for more.

are you watching full dvds or mpegs? i dont like losing any video quality.

full dvds? best bet is to burn them if you can't go the s-video route.

350 gigs would hold about 50-60 dvds which is pretty good. if the prices are decent it doesnt sound like a bad option

ive never seen an mpeg on a tv so i dont really know but i watch a lot on my laptop and i think its fair to say there is a big difference. mpegs are totally watchable that way but i think the picture depth is a lot more clear when its the actual dvd.

I have a big screen tv, and there is little difference between the xvid and dvd rips (although sometimes the difference is huge depending on the rip). The other advantage of the divx is that you can also use it to store other digital media. You can pick up a unit in Yongsan for about 80,000 won (or maybe less) and then it is up to you on how big a hard drive you put in it.
