I know that there are a lot of threads about CDI, but I've looked them over and I can't find a direct answer to this question. I just need a quick answer.
My father-in-law (Korean) told my wife that foreign teachers at CDI make 100,000 won per hour. This does NOT seem in line with what I've read of CDI, but I wonder if a teacher can EVER make that much teaching a CDI class, let alone on a regular basis.
Just trying to put this rumor to rest, thanks. |

I am not an expert on CDI
BUT
According to their website, the highest they pay a foreign teacher is about 1/3 that amount. Their average teacher earns between 2.0-2.4 mil per month.

The only teaching job I've heard of that would pay that much is if you're teaching SAT privates or something. I've been paid such an amount only twice - once as a private tutor for a specific English competition for high school students, and once as an interpreter.
CDI pays pretty well if you have the credentials, but I've never heard of any CDI instructor getting paid 100,000 an hour. |

I've definitely never heard of that, I'm pretty sure that is only a rumour.
Now 30,000 to 40,000 an hour is not out of the question, with a little experience. |

My friend from the UK was offered a job with them, but it wasn't as a teacher. They would have paid him about 3.5 a month. Something to do with planning. Granted he speaks fluent Korean, his mother is Korean, and he is here on a different type of visa than most native speakers.
I would say F Off to any offer from CDI. They screwed around with me in January 07 with multiple cancellations of guaranteed contracts, 4 times in one week. I went through with the training but bailed on them.
Again, CDI, don't waste your time, and don't believe what you hear. |

I work for cdi and 100,000 is WAY off base. 30-35,000 is more like the norm for higher ends of pay. I know people that make 26-29,000. Although I agree that 40,000 could be possible with enough credentials and a lot of experience (probably most at cdi though).
One more thing. Think long and hard before you accept any contract from cdi. If you love to work hard, work weekends and holidays, and korean bosses who love to keep pushing more work on you for no extra pay then go for it. |

For all the repliers, thank you for your concern, but don't worry - I'm not considering taking a job at CDI. I just was wondering if there is any truth at all in this rumor (in which case I would try to get a job there...). |

the only time i've ever made north of 100US per hour in ESL was when i was a "national lecturer" in taiwan. i'd travel around to the big cities and give talks to 300 taiwanese english teachers on how to enliven their classes..
still, the pay wasn't worth the effort. |

I do believe that you can make very high hourly rates at CDI Prep. However, there is a lot of prep for each hour and I don't think you are likely doing 25-30 teaching hours each week.
So their total salary to hours work ration might be better than regular CDI teachers - or might not - but if it is better I doubt we are talking double or triple. |

its less prep than any other class you would teach. You teach the same subject and the exact same test while making more than double. . . . |

okay then maybe I am wrong. I really don't know.
You saying a job at CDI Prep makes working at CDI proper look like a waste of time? If you are qualified and able to do CDI Prep, would you say it is clearly superior to working at CDI proper? |

If you are comfortable creating and prepping your own college level course and teaching it then, yes it would be more rewarding then just teaching at a regular cdi branch. Albeit more responsibilities, you do dictate your own class and get paid more. . . |
