I'd hate to be in a wheelchair in Seoul. The wife and I went shopping (well the wife did) in Dongdaemoon with our little girls and I have to say the experience was terrible. Try getting around the city with a double baby carriage.
Stairs everywhere, no escalators or elevators. Sure most stairs have one of those handycap carry thingies. You have to call the guy and he shows up to help you out..5 to 10 mins later.
Those of you who live in Seoul and love it...I hope you never have kids. You'll see what I mean then. |

The best were the escalators at some of the shopping places. Big pole in the middle to prevent you from taking your cart down.
Oh sorry the elevator is out of order. |

| I don't see many baby carriages around and I've never seen a double one. Most Koreans carry their kids on their front or back, your experience is probably why carriages haven't really caught on here. |

More and more of the younger moms use baby strollers now. Hopefully they will get rid of those neckbreaking wraps they use. You know the one where the kid is sleeping and his neck is 90 degrees to his body. |

Coming back to Canada I really noticed how handicap accessible everything is. I think it's illegal to have stairs and not an elevator/escalator with it. I recall in Seoul in some stations you need to trundle up about 3000 stairs.
Seoul doesn't suck though. |

The the sole reason "Seoul sucks" is due to a lack of elevators or ramps, then you should include all the rest of the Korean cities on your "sucks" list. I'm guessing Seoul has even more handicap/stroller accessible areas than other cities in Korea.
If you have a baby, you could always get a Western hiking baby carrier, the ones that look like backpacks. |

I'm not an American you *beep*.
I could also biatch about rude people hitting/walking into/bumping my little bundles of joy.
As for the carry devices...I have twins. I have to wonder how many men here have worn a baby on their chest ofr a day? It hurts you back after a few hours or so. I don't know how women can carry the all day (or 9.5 months)
Edit: Oh and Seoul does suck. dirty and crowded (like most of Korea) idiots on the sidewalk with bikes shooting their exhaust in our faces. Traffic...need I say more?

Stop whining and grab a couple of Podaegis. There are 13,000,000 people in Seoul, if all parents owned a mammoth double stroller it would be madness. When in Korea you need to accept their cultural habits and forget your home country. |

My Korean girl goes on multiday backpacking trips with me and carries the weight of more than one child just fine. Make your husband/partner do some of the work.
Seoul is great. Pollution and crowds aside, it's better than being in a city with less globalization and less things to do. |

I posted about this exact thing.
Someone gave me some funny advice. Stay on the sidewalks and learn where the smooth sidewalks are. What a joke. In this area, the sidewalks are so uneven, and that's when there even are sidewalks. Many places don't have any at all. What a great place to raise a family. Korea sparkling!! |
