Martin Luther King, Jr. was the most powerful and eloquent champion of the poor and oppressed in US history, and at the height of his fame in the mid-sixties seemed to offer the real possibility of a new and radical beginning for liberal politics in the USA. In 1968, he was assassinated; the movement for social and economic change has never recovered.
The conviction of James Earl Ray for his murder has never looked even remotely safe, and when William Pepper began to investigate the case it was the start of a twenty-five year campaign for justice. At a civil trial in 1999, supported by the King family, seventy witnesses under oath set out the details of the conspiracy Pepper had unearthed: the jury took just one hour to find that Ray was not responsible for the assassination, that a wide-ranging conspiracy existed, and that government agents were involved.
An Act of State lays out the extraordinary facts of the King story�of the huge groundswell of optimism engendered by his charismatic radicalism, of how plans for his execution were laid at the very heart of government and the military, of the disinformation and media cover-ups that followed every attempt to search out the truth. As shocking as it is tragic, An Act of State remains the most compelling and authoritative account of how King's challenge to the US establishment led inexorably to his murder.
About the Author
William F. Pepper was a young journalist just back from Vietnam when he first met Martin Luther King, Jr, and his photographs and first-hand accounts of his experiences prompted King's unflinching opposition to the war. His investigations of King's assassination included extensive interviews with James Earl Ray. Pepper is an English barrister and an American lawyer, who convenes a seminar on International Human Rights at Oxford University and maintains practices in the US and the UK. He is the author of three other books and numerous articles.

You're in a fringe minority who believes lone nuts killed JFK, RFK, MLK, and Malcolm, and that a guy on dialysis living in a cave on the other side of the world masterminded an attack requiring military precision to defeat the most greatly defended country in the history of man. N.B. Disinfo posters such as Joo, McGarett & Ya-ta would rather see the truth behind the assasinations of historical figures MLK, JFK, 911 etc. forever be kept hidden, than the TRUTH clearly ever see the light of day.
Regicide, meanwhile, continues to fight the good fight.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (CNN) -- The Rev. Billy Kyles, the only person standing on the second-floor balcony of the Lorraine Motel with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., had started to walk away when he heard the shot.
"When I turned, I could see him lying on the balcony. One of his feet was sticking through the railing, and there was this huge hole in his face," Kyles told CNN correspondent Soledad O'Brien as they stood together in front of Room 306 where the civil rights leader was gunned down 40 years ago this April.
In producing its two-hour documentary, "Eyewitness to Murder: The King Assassination," CNN Presents turned to the people who were there that day and others personally involved in the movement to tell their first-hand stories of a tragedy that still resonates today.
Fireman George Loenneke had asked to take a look through a police surveillance peephole in his fire station across the street and saw King at the moment he was hit.....

If it wasn't Kyles, there was another person who shows up on the balcony right after King is shot and is pictured with the dead King. This person is an undercover Army Intelligence agent, and there was an Army Intel Unit that had King under survillance and witnessed the assassination.
COPA, with attorney Dan Alcorn, filed FOIA requests for the Army After Action Reports, and were denied, but after an appeal to the final court before Supreme Court, the Army released a report that was generated by the After Action Reports.
Any discussion or documentary of the King assassination that doesn't mention the Army surveillance and AAR are incomplete and misleading.

Shocking mistermasan, but not surprising. You see, when you disturb the status quo of many people, it becomes too much to bear; thus their actions of denial and defense of that status quo.
Most major "conspiracy theories" are nothing of the kind. They are a mountain of facts disproving the official report. |

yeah, but you gotta bring folks along carefully. most folks of our generation have seen religion smashed and now to know out the other underpinning of an orderly life is too much for some folks.
if they knew the concept of gov't as taught in school was as bogus as the concept of god offered up at church many folks wouldn't have much to live for.
