A 28 year old Korean male who works as a fashion designer sexually molested a 27 year old American ESL teacher in a sleeping room at a Sauna siting 'curiosity about foreigners' as a reason.

I would have molested the hell out of that Korean man's nose, as in shattering it.

I'm sure there's not punishment headed the way of the Korean. Or, does the article mention any punishment?

What does "sexually molested" mean? Though, any kind of sexual assault is wrong in my books, but just curious.

Yes, that foreigner is in Korea. Molestation may be illegal back home, but he needs to adjust to the way things work in Korea. Since the Korean was older than him (and he was Korean!), the foreigner should have not only allowed the molestation, but should have also helped the molestation process.

There are saunas that are unofficially gay hangouts, and in those places, guys who fondle people in the sleeping rooms don't get hauled off by cops. I'm guessing the teacher was male, right?

I wonder if this poor teacher just wandered into the wrong kind of sauna? The guy's a fashion designer, but he couldn't say "I was coming on to him," so he has to fabricate a lame excuse like curiosity.

That's my take on it, anyway.

Marmot's Hole has got a translation:

Looks like the guy was booked, surprising!

A 28-year-old fashion designer by the name of Mr. Park has been booked on charges of sexually assaulting a American man in a Mapo-gu sauna.

According to police, Park assaulted (which probably means in this case inappropriately touched) the American, a 27-year-old English teacher, as he slept in the sauna jjimjilbang. The victim had his loins covered with a towel as he slept.

Park pleaded with the police for leniency, claiming he did it out of curiosity since he was a foreigner.

Well...it is bad the Korean did it but it really doesn't sound so shocking. It doesn't really rate as bad as rape or something. Girls often get pawed on dates and they usually say "no" and assume the guy is a jerk.

Any guy would be angry but most wouldn't call the cops (can you imagine the westerner explaining what happened to the police using gestures Laughing ).

I wouldn't call the police due to the fact they don't usually help foreigners. Or in Michael Hurt's case, they arrested him (the victim) instead of a drunk ajossi.

That's why the shattering of the nose would be my solution, then a swift exit from the sauna.

I'm really impressed that the police actually did something, and that it got media attention really.

Yeah, that whole "I sleep in jjimjjilbangs all the time, it's a great cultural experience -- besides, it's cheap and fun!" thing always strikes me as just waaaay too 'out there', waaay too fruity, waaay too hippy... regardless of the gender of the waegook.

Re: the case at hand, I'm completely mystified that the gay Korean's plea for clemency ("he was a foreigner, so naturally I was curious") didn't work.
