When the Stars & Stripes published the story on February 24, 2008, here's what they said:
Quote: |
U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan officials will not say why a prominent realty company is being investigated and was put off-limits earlier this month. |

This is only thru the grapevine but I guess there was a HUGE scam going on concerning a Korean realitor, maybe military and DOD members and U.S. military/government.
I'm hazy on the details but I heard that a realtor (don't know which) and possibly a few military and DOD members were in cahoots in jacking up the real state prices of homes and apartments and pocketing the extra money. The military unquestionly paid the amounts asked for which, I can only guess, was astronomical so there were quite a few people making off like bandits. This, of course gives EVERYONE a black eye specially the military for probably allowing it to go on possibly over a long period of time (decades maybe?).
I don't think this is anything new or surprising. This probably goes on where ever there is SOFA agreement and locals take advantage of wealthy nations willing to spend money but not ask specifics.
Again just gossip and I may be completely off-base...I feel like a little gossip now... |

That makes total sense. I believe it 100 percent.
When I lived in Itaewon, my apartment was 400,000 a month with 5 million down. The apartment next to me was costing that soldier 1.5 million per month. It was larger, but not that much! I told him he was overpaying.
I think the local soldiers have been over-paying through the nose for years. Glad to see someone finally figured it out. |

Turkey Farms has prostitution..haha. Is this a bar or actually a turkey farm?
Wow the 4 Seasons is selling prostitutes too? Is this the same chain owned in America?
The old Hard Rock, is this like the Hard Rock Cafe in the US? They have prostitution too?
I am serious in these questions.

Don't know nor have seen "Julie's Realty", but I sure do know "Julie's Relocation" which is basically in the same place. Anyone know if those outfits are one and the same? Because if they are, ohhhh boy... |

I am not surprised they placed them off limits. The US gvt is paying huge amounts of money for apartments that would be rented for less than 1/3 to locals.
I've dealt with Yongsan housing, and yes, there are things going on in there which lead to someone pocketing millions of dollars a year.
Sad, but true. They can't or won't do anything because they don't have enough on base housing to put all the soldiers and their families. |

Five years ago, I dated a girl who worked at that place. After about the 3rd date, it became obvious that she was just using me for English. We went walking around in Itaewon on that 3rd date on the way to dinner, and she was always looking around behind her back to make sure nobody saw her. I didn't call her again after that. I suppose she was looking for her real boyfriend. |
