Korean student killed in stabbing
A South Korean student has been killed and another Korean student critically injured in a stabbing attack in central Sydney, police say.

Superintendent Mark Murdoch said there was no evidence to suggest the two students instigated the attack by two teenagers suspected of belonging to an Asian crime gang.

The stabbing occurred after an argument between the students and a group of men about 1am (AEDT) on Thursday at the World Square Shopping Centre, Supt Murdoch told reporters.

A 19-year-old South Korean national died a short time later in hospital and his friend, a Korean man aged in his early 20s, was on Thursday critically ill with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, he said.

Two 18-year-old teenagers were arrested 17 minutes after the attack and were helping police with their inquiries.

Supt Murdoch said there was no particular significance to the mens' nationalities except that police were investigating the attackers' links to Asian crime gangs in the city.

Unfortunately, seems it was a fairly unprovoked and vicious attack.
A lot of Korean students, including a few friends I met over the summer, live round that area (Haymarket, Sussex St., Chinatown area).

Yeah, some of those Asian gangs who hang around that area are pretty tough. I remember one time, several years back, I was at the Shark bar (it was a dive but my friends liked it) and all of a sudden there was a huge fight with one guy getting plummelled with anything and everything in sight by scores of dudes. It was vicious and nasty, glasses, chairs, fists and legs were thrown at the unfortunate sod. It was just like a movie but real. Security moved in fast and took the culprits away (on to the police hopefully), but the guy was already severely messed up. Not sure what provoked it but I'm pretty sure it was over a girl, the guy probably got too close to the wrong girl. The guys involved in that fight looked Vietnamese, though may have been Chinese.

Ethnic gangs are a sad symptom of non-integration.
They do seem to prey upon their own more than anybody else i think..

I've never been stabbed in Australia but does it hurt as much as a pencil in the eye?

Latest news, 2 dudes have been charged, and are being held without bail.
Apparently they are 18 year olds. The whole incident was caught on CCTV.

true, but still there's the bra boys etc.

usually the triads and viet gangs are ok - they won't mess wit u if u don't give em an excuse to, unless u happen to own a restaurant/shop in their area and don't pay them anything. it's the little wannabes (e.g. those 18 y.o's i think) that can cause problems. they suffer occasional crises of credibility, and then there can start that stoopid "you lookin at my girl?" sorta crap.

It seems like the victim is a brother of Korean actor Lee Dong Gun.

Gang members killing each other is a good thing, if that's what it turns out to be. One less dirtball to round up and incarcerate at taxpayer expense, I say.
