no order of importance

TOP 10 SIGNS/INDICATORS THAT A COUNTRY IS POOR

1) every guy studies the most serious major in college (business, accounting, technology, etc)
2) too much skimpy gal ads on billboards, tv, print, etc (nothing says hopelessness by rechanneling people's energy into a sexual one). Skimp is good. Too much skimp means your country is poor
3) people marry young, and/or have lots of children (again, a society without ladders for success leave people steeping themselves in the concept of family)
4) people booze up too much
5) Your country looks like Suwon or Gwangju
6) the poliitican leaders are all suave dudes just because they are powrful. 1 suave guy is common. If everyone is a playboy past his prime just because of his job - your country is poor
7) soccer is the most popular sport. soccer costs are almost nil, so it is easy for poor countries to live, eat and breath soccer
8. Your country doesn't have white people but it is dependent on the US corporate sphere (aka you owe the IMF a lot of money)
9) good looking people hold regular jobs. Good people shouldn't be driving buses or doing regular people jobs. Those jobs are for the unhandsome. But in poor countries, their is no social niche-partitioning so the handsome and beautiful fend like everyone else.
10. It's citizens think Westerners (esp Americans) are stupid. This transpires because, in rich countries, people follow their abilities and talents. so, since they don't spend their lives fighting to get onthe first rung of the ladder - they appear stupid to people in poor countries.
11. Everyone falls under the small business quadrant. Plain and simple, nothing saying you are going thru life playing "financial defense", as pooling money together to start any business imaginable (mnus the imagination).

if you find your country fits in 1 or 2 of these.. it doesn't mean your country is poor. There are always exceptions. But if you country fits into #1 and any other two, your country is poor.

I've noticed that Koreans tend to marry rather old these days, almost always past 30. Yet back home and in the US I know lots of people who got married at 18 (and regretted it). I'd say Korea definitely beats us on this one.

But yah, it does sound like a rant, a well written grievance, but still nevertheless a rant against the country!
