Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has gone to the Korean Consulate in Toronto to get a certified Diploma (Bachelors) photocopy?

I'm hoping on doing this after the long weekend, and before rushing back to school.

I tried calling them, but I merely got an uniformative phone-answering service . . . which directs me to a message in Korean (after I've already selected the "English" option) and hangs up on me.

I assume I only need my original diploma (possibly photocopies already made?) and transcripts, but has anyone done this?

I can't speak for Toronto but I emailed the D.C. Korean Embassy and they informed me that embassies no longer notarize degrees. I think you have to follow the same process for the criminal records check, that is getting it notarized and then apostilled. Even then it's a toss up as to whether your school will accept it, most of them want the original but if you push hard I think they just might take it.

The Korean Embassies and Consulates never "notarized" photocopies of diplomas. They did, however, "certify" photocopies of diplomas and these certified photocopies were accepted by Immigration in Korea in lieu of sending the original diploma.

This practice stopped sometime last year, even before the new rules kicked in.

OK, so is it futile to go to the Korean consulate with anything more than my Criminal record check?

(I am a little disappointed to hear this . . . I've got tons of extra copies of my transcripts, at $10 a piece, which I heard were necessary . . . I'm a bit frustrated)!!

Canadians have different rules for document certification than ALL other countries who qualify for E2s to teach English because they are NOT a signatory to the treaty that allows for apostille.

Embassy/consular certification is a requirement for Canadian documents.

Historically they required the original, your copies, sealed transcripts, passport and the fee.

I cannot be 100% certain that this is true today but I suspect that this is still the case.
