I've been back home 8 months and 12 days.
I LOVE TEXAS! Good food, great friends, nice house, street signs, kind people and handsome, tall, built cowboys everywhere I go. This is again, and will forever be home. I might consider a short-term gig in a tropical place, but no more Asian countries for this girl.
I will NOT be one of the persons who choses to return to K-Land. My time there was a great experience, but I'm soooooo grateful for it to be over.
Well wishes to those on planes, in the Lounge or headed to the airport. Hope your return to civilization is as wonderful as mine has been. Take care ya'll! |

Yeah . There's a little truth that can easily be observed if you look for it . Find people that came to Korea after teaching somewhere else or having a job in sales or something , then compare their reports of the conditons here to someone who's just got out of university and knows sweet F-all about the real world . I think you will find a pretty strong correlation to those factors and as to if they whinge a lot . |

I've got just under 6 months to go, and it'll be the end of my third year as well....I can't wait to kiss the smell of kimchi goodbye!

glad you're enjoying Korea. (seriously) If i were more tolerant or something, i'd stick around for a bit longer...but there's always been a part of me that's bristled against the way things are done here. some might call it intolerance, I like to consider it common sense/logic....or something. haha.
there's also that pesky career i've been putting off since graduation 3 yrs ago.....hmm... |

| Yeah, but you're not 50 and when you see what's happening in the U.S. these days e.g. more laws, easier to criminalize yourself, PAYING to be in jail and on probation, gas headed for 4$ a gallon, jobs moving out by the thousands, housing at all time low, (except if you're buying). What I'm saying is don't laugh too hard, you may be in for a rude awakening. My brother is an ironworker, which ain't a bad gig, been at it over 20 years and he told me new project starts are at an all time low. He should know. And YOU should know how that translates into jobs becoming available. Fewer new buildings, fewer new positions to fill. Prime lending rate? Get out the vaseline. Loan defaults? All time high. Credit rates? Ouch. You'd better head to France and marry whatever, (so there will be NO tuition) If in fact you want to furthur your education. Or you might wind up in a hole you won't believe. Easy to check the stats. I would encourage you to do so. But God bless and good luck my brother from another mother............... |

I know what's going on back home, and trust me, I'm not looking forward to it, but I'm one of those silly people who got their undergrad in Radio & TV...lol..so the longer i'm outta the field, the more catchup I have to do. And the Canadian exchange with the won is making me wince. As for the marrying a French dude, you totally got me on my fallback plan! Well, french, swiss or british, I'm not too choosy! haha. I'm well aware of the fact that its gonna kill me going back and i'll probably be back in the Kdot sooner than I'd like to admit what with the improbability of finding a job and whatnot.
Sucky....and its not all that bad in Korea...though if you had talked to me about a month ago, I'd have told you how much I thought Korea sucked (culture shock and its circular cycle...dammit!) and I am looking forward to going home, though mainly for the friends and family. I'm sure I'll end up in another country before settling for good in Canada. We'll see.... thanks for the well wishes though |

i must say that even though my new digs in japan are awesome for so many reasons, i do miss korea and never said "never" with regards to coming back to make some sweet green sejongs.
but yeah, those new visa restrictions just beat you over the head with the inalienable logic "WHY DON'T YOU LIVE CLOSER TO SURF?"
waves at oarai beach today were at least 9 feet high. of course it was kind of a typhoon, but still - much bigger than the waves in the river of AIDS that flows through seoul. |

| I've been back in the UK for two weeks now and I am missing Korea! The UK is not a nice place to be; everything is prohibitively expensive and the people are just awful - not to mention the weather. I have started the job search so I will give it some more time. If the right job isn't forthcoming I wouldn't rule out a return. |

I think the last time there was a mass-exodus like this, it was due to the IMF situation.
I had no idea so many long-timers were leaving Korea. Wow. That just sucks. It kind of makes you wonder -- if these guys are leaving, how many of the untold masses are taking off that we don't know about?
I feel for you guys who are saying you don't feel like spending any more money in this country, with the way we're being treated due to new and unspoken banking laws. Believe me, I feel for you.

This is most definitely my last contract. I do not want to stay in Korea anymore. It is true we don't have to pay for gas in our cars over here, we don't have to pay for our rent, but often you don't have your dignity in this country. That is something more important than dollars, and people can find jobs back home. Maybe, you might have to actually work, but hey that's real life. |
What do you mean we don't have to pay for gas??? |

It was simply being regarded as a hired hand rather than a professional that truly made me feel used by the experience.
It may be cold back in Edmonton right now, but going to work on Monday is going to warm me through and through.

Gimmesome3k I' m also a mass comm major with radio and t.v as main area of interest. I'm from Saint Louis and if you don't know someone, good luck. It's a very tough field to crack and I have never seen such massive egos. I did a few games for espn and abc as a tech and it's dog eat dog. Try a small market first. And I hope you don't have "a perfect face for radio" Remember that one? GOOOOd Luck MAM.
