Hello,
I am planning on going to Korea this summer, and can't decide whether to go to a public or private school. A major factor for me is vacation time, which I understand is much better in public schools.
My questions is, if I did go to a hagwon, would I be able to travel after my contract is up and still receive money for the flight home? Or do I have to go directly from Korea back to the US? Ideally, I would want to take a month to go to Thailand or maybe New Zealand, and then head home...but I don't want to lose out on that flight money.
Any people with this kind of experience, I appreciate your comments! Thanks! |

Each hogwan will be different and you need to get an agreement in writing before you sign the contract.
Tell them you want a ticket to either your home country or to another country as long as the ticket is of equal or lesser value. In the case of a ticket elsewhere being more expensive, the hogwan should reimburse you the price of a ticket to your home country.
Most public school organizations will do this for you at the end of a contract, but you should still ask. |

hakwons really frown on teachers who make a point of letting them know they are just going to stay the year and then leave - they will pressure you from early on to renew your contract.
don't let them know you plan on traveling afterwards - but do mention you'd like to know if return air fare can be cash or does it have to be a tkt. or just mention it on the contract, that is, when you negotiate it. |
