They lost their houses, but why would that prevent them from renting? If you could pay your mortgage payments before the rate went up, just take what you were putting into your mortgage and use it for rent.

In short, indebtedness, and, priorities. The first thing that one woman says is that with her savings she will buy a car. Forget the bus. Forget 24 hour mass transit and public transport. Forget a little walking and exercise. Forget paying rent for a solid roof and adequate shelter for your children. Nah, *beep* that, buy a gas guzzling car.

Public transportation is abysmal in Los Angeles.

Plus I'd imagine the car would be a decent place to keep your stuff and to sleep in (while showering at the beaches).
