There is a young generation of girls who are internalizing the idea that their worth is predicated on their sexual prowess.

That is a beautiful thing, and I am happy to hear you say it. The fact that they have almost the exact opposite attitude towards sex that you do brings a smile to my face.

You are becoming irrelevant!

Plus there seems to be quite a difference in terms of what they wear and what it actually means...I mean "slutty" is still not a nice term, so when will the tide turn on this view?

Strangely enough, it may be that it's not 'slutty' to them. I hate to get all cultural relativist, but you could be reading more into than it actually is.

When I lived in Germany our school bus would pass by a cigarette advertisement everyday. And everyday we would all snicker. The reason being that this ad had a mermaid giving a man a cigarette and, as we all know, mermaids are topless. This was a normal ad in a normal part of town with tig o' bitties hanging out becuz the Germans don't care about tig o' bitties! Most of Europe doesn't either. As such they are surprised or appalled by seeing them, while Koreans would run screaming and Americans would clutch their crucifixes.

Just becuz you find it provocative doesn't mean they or anyone else does. Are you turned on by a catching a glimpse of ankle or the underside of a woman's wrist? Cuz those things we quite risque a time ago and the people of that time might have felt the same way about seeing ankle as you feel now about seeing lots of leg.

I am guessing you did not understand what I wrote. I did not say they were slutty. I said the current trend has not caught on to the language. So, it is not about being "slutty" but it is still viewed as such. There doesn't seem to be a "positive word" for this trend.

Face it, the style still evokes the word "slutty" even though that is not be the meaning behind it.

And for the record, I am a woman, so trust me when I know that what may look risque can be viewed in less than glowing terms by the male and female population...

The porn and the nudity are simply a means to an end, and not the cause of the problem.

The cause of the problem is the cult of celebrity that our culture has. Since being famous is always held up as being the most desirable thing a person can achieve, it's what most people seek out when they make plans for their lives.

And speaking as a Z-grade internet celebrity: Even the smallest amount of fame is addictive. So if you got a hundred people praising you for flashing your boobs on MySpace, thats a hundred more than normally.

I have no doubt that when you see them they appear 'slutty' but what about in the cultural context of other Koreans? Do you think Koreans see each other and think 'what a buttslut'?

It's funny in Korea becuz if I saw girls wearing what they wear here back home, then I would figure they were out to get laid that night. But here I don't get that same feeling. I assume they wear what is trendy without thinking about what others may pick up from it ('If everyone is wearing it then it must be alright').

Oh wow...we are looking at 2 different things...I wasn't talking about Korean women. I was talking about American women. Korean women wear clothing where their coochies are practically on display and no one looks twice...good for them. That probably wouldn't fly in the U.S. which is why I made the comment about the word "slutty" and so on and so forth...

Adult women who should be able to wear whatever they want, preferably without the label "slutty" being applied by either men or women. I think the problem is that little girls want to be like grown women, and are dressing and acting like adults, without really knowing why.

Kids are always in a hurry to grow up- that's never changed, but there are age limits on a lot of things that society says kids aren't ready for- driving, smoking and drinking are the obvious examples. I'm not saying that girls should need to show ID to buy miniskirts and pushup bras, but maybe companies shouldn't be making those things available in sizes that will only fit 10-12 year olds.

That and parents need to be more involved with what music, tv etc. their kids are into. Suzy wants the new Pussycat doll cd- fine but steer her away from acting/ dressing like them. I know my mother did that kind of thing to me, when I went nutty over Madonna in her "Like a Virgin " stage.

Can the Naked News anchor be a role model- for women sure, but that doesn't mean that guidance counselors should be putting up posters of her on the walls of their Middle Schools,
