I recently spoke to Dain Bae about getting a job at a high school.

My current GEPIK elementary school contract expires on May 13th.

Anyway, she was very helpful and said she could find me a job at a GEPIK high school, as requested, right after this job. All I need are the necessary documents ready in time and I must also meet her face to face, and then I am good to go.

I've haven't really paid close attention to threads on high schools, but I've noticed many posters say high schools involve less teaching hours, regular class cancellation, and plenty of unofficial vacation time.

Moving forward........any posters here that work at a high school (particularly a GEPIK high school) please post comments on how many hours you teach, how much vacation time you get (official/unofficial) and also any other benefits you receive.

Thank you.

You weren't laughed at when you were at the gym because of Koreans xenophobia.

It's because you're a jackass with horrible teeth.

You think these chidish remarks are going to stop my 'magnificent' posts? Dream on! Cool

Please stay on topic.

I havent worked for a GEPIK High School , but from what I hear you do get alot of days off.
The only problem is , there are different categories of High Schools. You may get stuck in a highly un motivated students which are desnited for retail/ blue collar work. These students feel they have no need for English what so ever and therefore put little or no effort into it.

You can meet with her and get your job or you can advertise yourself requesting a 'public high school job only' and get hired directly by the school. You may be able to negotiate more if you go the direct-to-school route or through a recruiter. I work for a high school. I negotiated the entire winter vacation off - one month paid - one month unpaid. I also asked for 10 working days off during the summer vacation paid. Negotiated that I didn't have to be at school on non-class days, which means last week I had 3 days off because of the boys going on a sight-seeing tour. This also means that I don't have to be at school on test days, which happen at least once a month, and during mid-terms amounts to a week off each time. They will give you a calendar showing you all the red days that everyone has off. I am supposed to work 21 hours per week, but sometimes the late afternoon class is cancelled so I will only have to work 16 hours per week. My suggestion is when you go into your meeting with the school or talk to your recruiter, put in writing EXACTLY what you would like. Don't be shy. Ask for the moon, all they can say is no. But you may be surprized at how reasonable the school administrators are. If you present yourself as a good package, then they will probably offer you the same in return.
