How ridiculous. Just got back from a movie where a girl next to me answered her p hone in the middle of it, and next to me some ajusshi and ajumma whispered to each other back and forth for at least 20 minutes (i'm guessing they didn't understand even the fairly simplistic plot of I am Legend).
Koreans shushing others? GImme a break |

I got shushed in a bookstore once...even tough almost everyone was talking I was singled out...I was talking with a Korean as well
I shushed a girl with her Dad talking the entire way through a movie once. Unbelievably the Dad didn't have the brains or decency to keep her child quiet. What a moron. |

Did the father pay for her daughter to get in the theatre or did he sneak her in and not pay? |

By that I mean being told to keep quiet.
So yesterday a few of my mates and I went to the Van Gogh Exhibit. There were 100's of people and obviously as people were walking in line to see the artwork, people were talking. There was a natural buzz of banter in the air. I myself was just talking to one of my friends about whatever I saw in the pictures (I'm not an art fundi but I appreciate it nonetheless)
Anyways, to get to the point, all of a sudden I feel a tap on my shoulder and it's one of the staff members telling me not to touch the paintings. At first I was completely confused because I hadn't touched a darn thing, I merely pointed to something and I certainly wasn't the only person doing that. And then when I realised what she was saying, I told her that I wasn't touching anything and THEN she tells me "Ssshh sssh be quiet" and puts her fingers to her lips as if I was a child.
Oh my gosh, at that point I was ready to explode because amongst EVERYONE in the museum she decided to tell ME to be quiet. And when I told her to go and tell everyone else the same thing she continued to harrass me. Eventually I just turned around and ignored her.
After the exhibition I was then told that she had done the same thing to my other friends who were ahead of us!! So basically she purposely sought us out to quieten us down as if we were the only people in the entire exhibit that were talking!
*sigh* |
Oh, I hate this flagrant crap. Not yours, just the crap that doesn't make practical sense and then as a foreigner you're supposed to understand
Heck, I'v been in Taiwan for over a year now and never had a noise ordinance I thought I should be imposed, such as for drunks and innane activity. Crap, this is not to metion other factors.
I'm now in Taiwan, and the Chinese are much more civilized. Face it, Koreans think what's wrong 'is' right. Even the Taiwanese will not acknowledge them. |

or on subways, ajjoshis shouting into their phones! NE NE NE NE NE!!!
koreans always getting excited when they talk, just look at dramas on TV, they think acting means SHOUTING! every line is shouted!!
and they want to tell us to tone it down>? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

hahahahahaahahha like sitting in a restaurant always drunk ajjoshis there yelling at each other, laughing, and shouting the more and more they get drunk! do they give a toss about anyone else in there!! does the owner tell them to keep it down!! HELL NO!! but if it was a table of waygooks you bet the owner would say, please quite! alittle..

You are definately right about that. Koreans are EXTREMELY LOUD!!! OMG, these people take the cake. I've been on the skytrain with them SCREAMING AND YELLING AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS UPSETTING EVERYONE ON THE CAR!!!! So I yelled at them, "SHUT UP, you Koreans think you own the whole damn world!" You know they still kept yelling on their cell phones and with each other. I've been in vans with them yelling and screaming and making nasty comments towards Thais. When the driver tells them to quiet down, they act like they didn't hear anything and ignore the order. Then, I turned around and said, "You've been TOLD to shut up. You know full well what that means. It means SHUT UP." I've been in restaurants in Korea where these people have about tripped over me to get into huge shouting matches with each other and to the point where the whole place is in an uproar. They are never asked to quite down in Korea no matter how bad it is. Now I'd be on a train and have an extremely urgent call to take in English and I'll cover my face and speak as softly as I can and people would give me the evil eye and shhhh me. Just do like the Koreans.... IGNORE it and procede as you did before the annoying person disturbed YOUR peace. Oh, and make sure to give that 'shhhh' to anyone who trys to speak with you on the subway, especially a Korean who's trying to practice English. And those people who either sell things or scream on and on about Jesus, don't forget to stare and give the evil eye. I really hate those people! |

As tempting as it is to say "ugh! Those bloody Koreans!", some foreigners really are stupidly loud and annoying.
I sympathize with the OP because he or she is adament that there was no excessive volume and certainly didn't touch anything, but as for the rest of the stories, I'm willing to bet some involved douchebaggy behavior and the Korean was justified in telling you to STFU! |
I know this a bloody old thread, but what u said is right. Bloody foreigners, everywhere! |

| This thread reminds me. I'm going to go into a library and start banging pots until they kick me out. But they deserve it, because Koreans tend to be loud people. Also, Koreans make generalisations too much. |

But your pot banging won't be heard for the students "studying" quietly. |

Did you know that when Korea won the first game against Italy many of the Korean Canadians in TORNTO AND VANCOUVER went nuts and started to yell and cheer in the streets of Canada at 2 - 3 am. Many of the neighbors complained and the police were asked to come and step in.
Truly amazing that they don't feel the need to respect us in our own country ,yet we must respect them in Korea.
Has anyone been to THAILAND or PHILAPHINES? Have you noticed how Koreans act? The Korean expats are constantly yelling " bali ,bali"
From what I ve seen, Koreans aren't shy about speaking Korean in other countries |

One time I was on the KTX on my cell phone, (not speaking nearly as loudly as the pissing, crying, moaning and farting children two seats down, not to mention the ajumma smacking and popping her xylitol next to me ) when the KTX chick shushed me.
I told the KTX chick that once the kids and the ajumma shut the F%$K up, then I will too.... |
