'Happy Easter to those who celebrate, for the Zoroastrians Now Ruz passed and Jews had Pesach pass... I am sure the Hindus have a spring festvial called the Holi Festival
HOLIFESTIVAL
The festival is quite colorful, I'd say.

On another note, there are few female contributions to this forum. Perhaps, only 4 posters are female. I am not sure. Anyway, what would encourage more of them to post. Not all current events have to be all charged up. Do any females have any suggestions besides cleaning up the locker room or is something that turned off the females or they just simply see the word "Current Events" in many cases and don't want to go to a political forum? I don't think men are much more political than women. I am just an Ump trying to figure the call on this one.

Thanks and don't eat too much chocolate....And for atheists, happy chocolate eating day....

I don't think we should get into the mode of thinking of "well, since this forum doesn't attract enough people from Category X, what can we do to change that?" Certain people are attracted to certain types of discussions, and the demographics are not going to be entirely representative of the population at large. If it was a hockey forum, for example, you'd likely have an overrepresentation of posters from Canada and the northern USA, and very few people from South Africa or New Zealand. And it would be kind of foolish to start discussions along the lines of "how can we make arguments about hockey more interesting to Africans and Kiwis?"

Now having said that:

Have their been actual complaints from women who want to post here, but are discouraged from doing so because they find the discussions unappealing to female sensibilities? If so, perhaps you should ask those women what their complaints are, if you really are set on changing the way the board operates. And if there haven't been such complaints, I have to wonder what the point of this thread is.

[The making hockey more interesting to Africans is an interesting point.
What about some Zambians on ice? I don't mean ice as in police movie kind like with a hockey puck. In all seriousness, we do have Hillary Clinton as a potential president. I was asking do posters think women are generally not so interested in politics, so they don't come on this forum, or do they think this forum is simply not their cup of tea even if they don't mind some politics. It is just curiousity. I would definitely on an individual level like to see more female posters to see if they could, perhaps, add a perspective sometimes not seen, but, on the other hand, on the other hand, they may have the same exact perspective, right?

As far as complaints, I have only heard one female complaint about the board sometimes being very unruly and off-the chain. I think the place is good, I like it over all. No, I haven't heard many major complaints.

That analogy of Africans playing hockey reminded me of the Jamaican bob sled team? Do you know about that?

The trick to attracting any segment of the population, be they females, hockey players, Africans, or African hockey-playing females, is to make the threads and subjects that they would be interested in easily accessible. But while the rants and discussions about Korean women's bodies are always up there on page one, everything else is almost impossible to find.

This site can't talk about attracting and retaining the interest of new groups of people while it has arguably the worst search function on the entire internet. Rolling Eyes

Well, the "K-girls are hot" stuff is usually not found in the CE forum. That tends to be more over in General Discussion.

Should a moderator use a sock for postings not moderator policy/guideline/etiquette related?

As a female, I can't say I've ever found this forum unfriendly to women. If anything, it's probably the least misogynist of all the forums. Perhap women are less likely to be interested in politics, etc. Or perhaps they're less interested in arguing about it? I don't think there's much you could do to change it.

It's up to any individual to start a thread about something that interests them. Whether others will then take up the discussion though, is anyone's guess. I often give my threads a title that baits... Wink

I don't see why a mod shouldn't openly post. Canuckistan used to post here a lot under her mod handle. It never bothered me any.

I am all for attracting more females to this board. How about Thursday night "Ladies' Night?"

Why not? It's not against any guideline. The guidelines say a moderator should avoid bias, should not get involved in a thread if she or he has a regular handle that got involved in a particular thread and other things, but nothing against posting and soliciting opinions from members or simply engaging in occasional friendly banter. The umpire doth speak....

3) OTOH asked you several questions which you didn't respond to. Why not?

Nowhever, it's a conspiracy, that's why I didn't respond. Seriously, on the other hand, had some good points, but some female posters might liven up the place in a certain way, not that's a dormant volcano by any means.

On the other hand, I thought, perhaps, that the women might be able to give somewhat different perspective, but, on the other hand, they might not be able to, I am no expert on women, so it was just a question.
And the ladies night Gopher mentioned doesn't sound bad, but I am not sure how that would work on a CE forum? Do you?

That talk about Africans getting interested in hockey made me think of the Jamaican bob sled team. What an idea?!

The only problem is that I didn't write it.

Funny. It has my name next to it. But I didn't write it. Except for this bit:

Say, where did my 1) and 2) go?

So let's see, if I didn't write it but it has my name next to it, that can only mean one thing: Someone was in my account and posted it from there.

Now, who could that be?

**puts two and two together**

Gee, maybe it was the person who was apparently responding to me.

Enrico, why were you in my account? Moreover, why did you erase what I posted? Is it normal for mods to poke around users' accounts?

Thank you. That has always been rather self-evident to me, and it's about time somebody said so.

No, I don't know how to poke into an account. It is possible a button was hit and instead of the quote function, an edit function was hit, but as far as I can recall I was replying to OTOH. I cannot tell you what exactly happened unless you put me under hypnosis, just rest assured, I can't go into your account, and I wouldn't want to either even if I could.
Anyway, I wanted to say OTOH brought up good points. That's it.
