My dear friends, I trust you are well. Hello again on another Sunday afternoon. On sundays, if I've no plans (I try to avoid them), I enjoy nothing more than to drink high quality bastions of sophistication and the good life at home sensibly whilst downloading music. I'm a fan of all kinds of music as people of taste, discernment and decency ought, but on the menu recently is decidedly Metal/Grunge. I'm a very big fan of Tool, Type O Negative, Faith No More and Soundgarden - so very much a follower of the Sabbath-style sound as opposed to the Metallica/Slayer Speed Metal sound. I do occasionally enjoy the latter, but it gets blown away generally.

Anyway, guys and girls, I don't wanna have a chat about Metal per se. What I wanna do is this:

1. Which ONE (relatively obscure) Metal or Grunge song just....blew you the hell away?
2. State it.
3. If at all possible, try to make it relatively obscure. There's not much point in telling me Smells like teen spirit because I wanna get inspired by something new.

I'll state mine after someone else gets the ball rolling.

I'll watch it later, Clarky, as I am at present listening to Tool. To switch off Tool would be heresy and contrary to all that's sane, true, proper and decent.

My song: Type O Negative - Creepy Green Light

It's at once utterly base and barbarous yet movingly beautiful. It could do with a guitar solo, mind you, and the dirge in the middle recieves criticism, as do the at times rather cheesy lyrics, but no matter. You guys are gonna have to download it, or preferably support the band by buying their underrated 1999 classic album World Coming Down.

Following Tool on my MP3 player are songs by H.I.M (check out Kiss Of Dawn), Avenged Sevenfold (check out Almost Easy), and Apocalyptica (I'm not Jesus.)

I've heard it said(by me) that europeans don't understand metal and americans don't understand dance music. By understand I mean, being able to distinguish genres etc.

Now obviously alot of dance genres originated in the states and maybe some metal ones in europe(i have no idea on this count) but just in the americans I have met, they seem to know about metal whilst not knowing a thing about dance music except to label it all techno. I am the opposite. I have no idea what even constitutes a metal song. Also North Americans seem to be into more heavy music in general.

Am I on to something or did I just meet the wrong people?

I'm not trying to hijack thread...just wondering and u guys seem to know your metal.

Ooh and just to contribute to the thread..

I really like anything by the Pixies..not sure if they count,...but you did mention nirvana..and they seem similar. My favorite is 'hey' off doolittle which is my fave pixies album.

and a nirvana song from bleach: Swap meet

Bleach is not their best album but def my fave.

Impressed! A dozen or so posts and no rankist musical bigotry. No semantical discussions about what is so and so metal and very definitely isn't that other kind of metal.

No condescending descriptions of what is Cunt Hole Metal, Dried Shit Metal, *beep* Metal, Pretentiofuckface Metal etc. etc.

Well done!
